Micro Combat Unmanned Aircraft System WARMATE (Micro C-UAS WARMATE) is designed in order to support the following combat operations, depending on the payload in use:

– Surveillance, detection, recognition and identification of the objects of interest (EO/IR payload GS9),

– Detection and strike against the enemy personnel (EO-fragmentation charge warhead),

– Detection and strike against the enemy’s light armored vehicles (EO-linear cumulative charge warhead).

The selection of the mission profile is being performed by choosing the proper payload/warhead just before the system operation. The payloads are interchangeable by sharing common interfaces. Micro C-UAS WARMATE can be operated as an autonomous and independent system, being transported by the army or special forces troops. The system has also the capability of being installed onboard the military vehicles, such us the terrain vehicle or armored personnel carrier. The subsystem as the Ground Control Station or Ground Data Terminal can be seamlessly integrated with the vehicle’s onboard installation making it a part of the system.

Micro C-UAS WARMATE is an alternative solution related to ATM/APM being much cheaper and allowing for the wider radius operations (10 km) with the possibility to Hunt&Kill missions for the extended period of time (30 minutes in the air). The operator has the ability to make sure the observed object is a real target to be engaged. WARMATE is a micro representative of the loitering munition class weapon. The system can be easily extended with the laser seeker capability.

The warheads installed onboard WARMATE air vehicle were designed and manufactured by Military Armament Institute (Poland) in partnership with WB Electronics S.A.

The WARMATE air vehicle, in the combat mission is an one-time, expendable solution. On the other hand, equipped with the EO/IR payload can be recovered using deep-stall landing.

The Defence Capability of the Australian Army Will Be Enhanced under Three Contracts

Yesterday, on 21st June 2018, the Australian Department of Defence announced that the Australian Army in partnership with the Defence Innovation Hub has awarded three contracts for enhancing the defence capability. The total value of the three contracts for development of new defence technologies is $2.2 million, learned BulgarianMilitary.com.

“These contracts support the development of innovative solutions to challenges of novel weapons and novel effects in a combined arms team in a joint environment,” the Australian Defence Industry Minister, the Hon Christopher Pyne MP, commented that partnership between the Defence Innovation Hub, the Australian Army and local industry partners for the purposes of development innovative solutions for enhancing the defence capability of the Army, which is quite encouraging as said by the Minister as well.

The Australian-based weapons research and development company, Defendtex, received two of the contracts. Under one of the contracts at the amount of $1.04 million, Defendtex will explore the development of a lightweight, modular shotgun system. The subject of the other $957,000 contract is research for the development of low-profile body armour.

The focus of Defendtex is on development of small arms through new fabrication techniques for accelerating testing procedures and manufacturing of innovative design solutions.

The third $227,000 contract has been awarded to one of the Australian Defence Force’s most trusted partners, Thales Australia, and under that agreement the company will make researches for developing an innovative optics system for use with the current in-service Enhanced F88 rifle to provide improved targeting capability and shooter accuracy on operations.

Thales Australia belongs to a leading global electronics and systems group developing and manufacturing products for the defence, aerospace and space, security, and transport sectors in Australia and worldwide.

Norway and Germany to Collaborate under a Naval Strike Missile Contract

Kongsberg Defence and Aerospace AS (Norway) announced on 20th June that it has signed a contract with the Norwegian Defence Materiel Agency at the amount of 220M NOK (EUR 23.31 million) for a cooperation agreement on the Naval Strike Missile (NSM), learned BulgarianMilitary.com.

The President of Kongsberg Defence and Aerospace AS Eirik Lie commented, “This contract is an important milestone in a long-term Norwegian-German cooperation on missiles. The NSM is a product of the unique triangle cooperation developed between the defence industry, FFI and the Armed Forces.”

On its part, the Norwegian Government revealed last year in February 2017 the Strategic Cooperation with Germany for acquiring new submarines, where Germany plans to acquire NSM for its Navy. Norway and Germany will collaborate in a long-term NSM development for their vessels. That agreement is the first stage in this collaboration and its duration is set to be one year.

Kongsberg Defence and Aerospace is the premier supplier of defence and aerospace-related systems of Norway. According to a further research of BulgarianMilitary.com the NSM of the Norwegian company is an anti-ship and land-attack missile. Its original name in Norwegian meant “New sea target missile”. The current English marketing name Naval Strike Missile was adopted later.

A NSM was successfully test fired for the first time on 5th June 2013 by the Royal Norwegian Navy against a target vessel carrying a live warhead. The target vessel was the decommissioned Oslo-class frigate HNoMS Trondheim, which was hit and the test showed that the munition functioned as expected.

This year the Armed Forces of the United Arab Emirates expect to receive and field its first Rabdan IFV (Infantry Fighting Vehicle), reported Defence Blog.

The Rabdan IFV has been purchased from the developer of the amphibious vehicle – Al Jasoor, which is a joint venture between Heavy Vehicles Industries – a fully owned subsidiary of Tawazun Holding, the UAE and Otokar Land Systems UAE – a fully owned subsidiary of Otokar, Turkey. Details concerning the deal and manufacturing process were revealed to journalists at Eurosatory 2018.

The Rabdan is an 8×8 wheeled armoured vehicle based on the Arma 8×8 of Otokar and developed after the specific requirements of the Armed Forces of the United Arab Emirates.

In accordance with the revealed specifications, the Rabdan IFV can transport military personnel of 12 members including the driver and the commander. Its minimum gross weight is 28,000 kg, and the maximum one is 30,000 kg.

The Rabdan features a Caterpillar 12.5 liters diesel engine, which develops 600 hp. coupled to an Allison 4500 automatic transmission with 6 forward and 1 reverse gears. The maximum speed, which may be reached by the vehicle on land is 105 km/h with a maximum cruising range of 700 km.

The ballistic protection provided by the Rabdan is up to STANAG Level 4 and the mine protection – up to STANAG Level 4a/b.

The vehicle is fully amphibious and propelled in the water with the possibility of speeding up to 10 km/h thanks to 2 propellers, mounted under the hull rear. This capability could be optional as well.

Last week, on 14th June 2018, one of the leading companies in electronic defence, Indra, announced that it has completed the development of an advanced portable electronic defence system (manpack).

Thanks to the newly developed lightweight easy-to-carry system soldiers will be able to determine the location of enemy air defence systems, vehicles, aircrafts, or vessels. Until now, electronic warfare equipment had to be integrated on vehicles and other fixed platforms due to its size and complexity. Now that kind of warfare solution has reduced size and weight thanks to Indra and it can be put in a backpack and carried by one person. Therefore inaccessible to vehicles mountainous and steep areas wouldn’t be an issue any more.

The Indra’s system provides information through scanning any radar signal and analysing its characteristics for finding out how the enemy uses its surveillance systems and how they can be neutralized.

This manpack equipment can exchange data in real time with other units, so an electronic defence network could be created and the gathered information to be sent to a command centre for further analysis and planning.

The development of that innovative equipment is a result from the work of Indra in the recent years in the direction of adapting the portfolio of solutions of the company to the needs and requirements of armed forces all over the world.
