ANKARA, TURKEY — Turkish Aerospace Industries [TAI] has shared the first real photo of an ANKA-3 unmanned fighter jet. ANKA-3, in the form of a flying wing developed with domestic facilities of the Turkish industry, is expected to make its first flight in 2023. In the shared photo, it can be seen that there are two supersonic drones on the ANKA-3’s external weapon stations.

Defense Industry Presidency Chairman Prof. Dr. Ismail Demir, in a statement to Turkish media, announced for the first time that TAI has developed an unmanned combat aircraft. “Wait for it, it’s on the line,” commented the new unmanned fighter, Professor Demir, laconically.
According to information obtained by SavunmaSanayiST.com, TAI’s unmanned fighter jet will have a maximum take-off weight of approximately 7 tons. ANKA-3, which is expected to make its first flight in the second quarter of 2023, is being developed in light of the experience gained from the ANKA series of unmanned aerial vehicles.
ANKA-3 was developed primarily for air-to-ground missions. Accordingly, deep-strike and DEAD/SEAD missions will be among the aircraft’s primary attack capabilities.
The drone family of the Turkish industry ANKA enjoys local and foreign interests. An ANKA-1 version, for example, is in service with the Turkish army. Also, this drone has already been exported to three countries.
ANKA-2, the second member of this drone family is also used by the Turkish defense and has already been sold to two countries. In general, apart from Turkey, ANKA drone operators around the world are Algeria, Chad, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Malaysia, and Tunisia.
Turksi has not only become a major manufacturer of military reconnaissance and attack drones, but also one of the leaders in international markets. The success of Turkey’s most famous drone, Bayraktar TB2, has brought opportunities for the Turkish defense to sell its unmanned products all over the world.
For example, Bayraktar TB 2 is already operated by Qatar, Libya, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Morocco, Ethiopia, Kyrgyzstan, Somalia, Pakistan, Djibouti, Burkina Faso, Rwanda, Togo, Niger, Nigeria, Poland, Mali, United Arab Emirates.
I.e. the manufacturers of the ANKA and Bayraktar series continue to produce budget drones that are efficient and do the job they were designed for. These drones are affordable and can serve to protect and defend the air, land, or sea territorial integrity of a country. Turkey also produces drones intended for the naval forces of a country. They are designed to take off from aircraft carriers.
