WARSAW, POLAND — Ukraine is negotiating with its allies to transfer warplanes and long-range missiles to destroy warehouses behind the Russian army and its command posts, Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov said in an interview with CBC on Sunday. Andriy Yermak, chief of staff of the President of Ukraine, also commented on the acquisition of the F-16 aircraft in Telegram.

On the Telegram channel, Andriy Yermak, the chief of staff of the President of Ukraine, wrote that “work is being done on the acquisition of F-16 fighters. We have positive signals from Poland, which is ready to provide them to us in agreement with NATO.” The Air Force currently operates 48 Lockheed Martin F-16 Jastrząb [C/D Block 52+ Advanced] multirole combat aircraft.

Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said this morning [January 31]: “As was the case a few months ago in the context of the MiGs, any other air power will be introduced and possibly transferred after consultation with NATO countries. Here we will act in full coordination.”

Reznikov Christmas’ wish

“Last year I wrote my wishes in a letter to Santa Claus. This list remains fighter jets, combat aircraft, aviation, ATACMS-like missiles or something similar, capable of long-range attacks on Russian fuel and ammunition depots, as well as command posts,” Reznikov said in turn.

He added that modern tanks donated to Ukraine by Canada and other international partners could become a turning point on the battlefield.

“The HIMARS systems were a turning point in the summer, now this role will be played by tanks, and later the turning point will be combat aircraft,” the minister noted.

“We need to present real arguments and explain how we will use them and why we need them. I look at it with optimism,” said Reznikov.

“Our goal is to liberate all the occupied territories, but we will see how quickly this will happen,” summed up the head of the military department.
