For the first time, Taiwan displayed the Navy’s amphibious transport ship Yushan. The Hsiung Feng-2 [HF-2] anti-ship missile system was also demonstrated. Yushan will strengthen Taiwan’s anti-ship asymmetric warfare capability, both on the outlying islands and around Taiwan’s coast.

The Yushan vessel is currently undergoing testing and personnel training. In peacetime, the ship’s main task will be transport support in the South China Sea and the outer islands. Yushuang will also be used as a field hospital. Taiwan envisages the ship’s participation in humanitarian rescues.

During wartime, the amphibious task force is formed to conduct amphibious operations, reinforcements, relief, and recovery operations on remote islands.

The Ministry of National Defense invited the media to visit the Yushan ship in Zuoying. The ship has a spacious cabin, and interior equipment such as an operating room, dentist room, recovery room, and ward.

Taiwan’s navy says the Yushuang will enjoy a more affluent living environment than other ships. The ship is also equipped with a gym with dumbbells, barbells, and equipment for muscle training, and aerobic exercises. The gym is available to officers and sailors.

In addition, the Yushan ship’s huge dry dock is loaded with two landing craft utilities [LCU]. There is an additional mechanical LCU in the dry dock, as well as multiple AAV-7 landing vehicles. Humvees and other heavy vehicles are also parked on the ship ready for deployment. The surrounding deck can be filled with water for amphibious vehicles, thus launching them directly into the water.

The Taiwanese Navy is already conducting flooding and unloading exercises on anti-submarine helicopter ships and LCM boats. This whole demonstration was carried out at Taoziyuan Beach.

During the demonstration, the Taiwan Navy showed the deployment of the HF-2 missile launcher in the cabin of the warship Yushan, as well as through the amphibious assault ship LCU for its deployment ashore. Military personnel at the demonstration site explained that the national army continues to develop asymmetric combat power.

The Taiwan Navy missiles and other related weapons are based on the principle of mobility to avoid letting the enemy capture the dynamics. The Yushan warship will deploy the HF-2 launch vehicle to remote islands or throughout Taiwan.
