MOSCOW ($1=70.25 Russian Rubles) — Project 667 is a Russian Lada-class attack submarines, diesel-electric, designed by the Russian Rubin Design. On December 23, the third submarine of this class was launched in St. Petersburg. The name of the submarine is B-587 Velikiye Luki. The NATO designation of this class of submarines is the St. class. Petersburg.

The plans of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation are in the coming days to start the state tests. After their completion, if successful, the B-587 Velikiye Luki submarine will be accepted into service with the Russian Navy.
The crew is currently familiarizing themselves with the design of the submarine, learning to work with the armament and systems integrated into it. The commander of the B-587 Velikiye Luki captain III rank Artem Gavrilov told the Russian media. According to him, the submarine is equipped with a modernized system for managing the ship’s equipment. It has integrated a new electric propulsion system. The navigation system is also new, but it is not specified which one.
The Russian Navy already has two St. Petersburg-class submarines. These are the flagship St. Petersburg submarine designated B-585 and the second of the class, which is named Kronshtadt and designated B-586.
Submarine St. Petersburg is part of the Northern Fleet of the Russian Federation. Due to technical problems, the submarine was supposed to complete its trial operation sometime in 2017, but it did not happen. Four years later, the trial operation ended after modernization was carried out at the Kronstadt Marine Plant.
The second submarine of the class, which was the first to be serially produced – B-586 Kronstadt was also accompanied by problems in its construction. Sometimes at the end of the first decade of the new millennium, it was supposed to enter service, but a temporary suspension of production delayed its operational placement on combat duty. It was only in 2013 that the B-586 Kronstadt was completed, and five years later, in 2018, it entered service.
This delay also delayed the submarine’s open sea tests and trials. Thus, instead of several years earlier, only this year the submarine was sent for sea trials. They lasted until the end of April this year.
The Lada class submarines belong to the fourth generation submarines. This is not a nuclear submarine, but a conventional one. Submarines of this class must fight enemy submarines as well as military surface ships. Lada class submarines also have weapons to destroy coastal targets. They have the function of laying mines and forming a highly condensed minefield. Russian engineers claim that these submarines are distinguished by an extremely low noise level, which determines whether they will be detected by the radar by enemy submarines.
The crew of this type of submarine is up to 36 people. There are six torpedo compartments, which are 533mm. Thus, the armament of the submarine consists of 18 torpedoes – three for each torpedo compartment. The submarine can dive to a depth of 300 meters.
The maximum speed of underwater swimming is 21 knots. A Lada-class submarine is 66.8 meters long and just over 7 meters wide. Its displacement is 1765 tons.
