KYIV ($1=36.92 Ukrainian Hryvnias) — Although less intense, Russian attacks on Ukrainian infrastructure and weapons systems continue. Missiles and drones are used by the Russian armed forces.
A new video shared on social media shows a failed Russian attack. The target was the Ukrainian T-72 tank, and the attack was carried out by the Russian loitering munition Lancet. The 24-second video shows two Russian Lancet drones caught in the branches of a tree under which the Ukrainian tank was. The two drones did not explode and thus the tank remained intact.
It is noteworthy that the camouflage netting that was stretched and covered the tank did not manage to hide the T-72 from the Russian operators and from the Lancet. Apparently, luck and nature were in favor of the Ukrainian crew of the tank.
Lancet
Lancet-3, as is the abbreviation of the Russian drone, is already becoming a hero, commented Russian profiles on social media. Its wingspan is barely one meter. It weighs 12 kg and can carry a payload of 3 kg. Highly maneuverable, fast, and agile. The drone can stay in the air for up to 40 minutes. It has a range of 5,000 meters and flies at a maximum speed of between 80 and 100 km/h. The characteristic of the drone is that when it marks and intercepts the target, it increases its flight speed, hitting the target at 300 km/h. The drone is powered by an electric motor.
Lancet is perhaps the only Russian drone that performs at the level in the war in Ukraine. After the massive failure of the Orlan-10, Lancet has on the list of destroyed targets M777 howitzers, T-62 and T-72 tanks, one Ukrainian MLRS system, M109 Paladin self-propelled howitzers, Strela-10s, and S -300s.
2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine
On 21 February 2022, the Russian government claimed that Ukrainian shelling had destroyed an FSB border facility on the Russia Ukraine border, and claimed that it had killed 5 Ukrainian soldiers who tried to cross into Russian territory. Ukraine denied being involved in both incidents and called them a false flag.
On the same day, the Russian government formally recognized the self-proclaimed DPR and LPR as independent states, according to Putin not only in their de-facto controlled areas, but the Ukrainian regions as a whole, and Putin ordered Russian troops, including tanks, to enter the regions.
On 24 February 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered an invasion of Ukraine by Russian Armed Forces previously concentrated along the border. The invasion followed by targeted airstrikes of military buildings in the country, as well as tanks entering via the Belarus border.
Russia has so far not recognized the invasion of Ukraine as a “war”, although that is exactly what it is, claiming that it is a “special military operation”. According to the UN, in which Russia has its permanent representation, for military action to be defined as a “special military operation”, it must have a resolution issued by the UN. There is no such resolution, which automatically defines the military actions of the Russians as an invasion and war against the citizens of Ukraine.
