VILNIUS ($1=0.95 Euros) — On December 3, the Ministry of National Defense of Lithuania announced that two refurbished PzH 2000 howitzers and a package of 155 mm artillery ammunition had been delivered to Ukraine. The decision to hand over ammunition of this caliber was made at the last meeting of the National Defense Council of Lithuania.

Lithuania is very involved in military support for Ukraine, providing it with a significant amount of military equipment for that country, but also logistically supports the use of equipment provided by other partners. Vilnius delivered to our eastern neighbors two more refurbished German-made PzH 2000 howitzers, as well as more batches of 155 mm artillery ammunition, which are badly needed in Ukraine.

The PzH 2000 was upgraded in Lithuania because these artillery systems are used by the local armed forces. Ukraine received two refurbished howitzers with software from Germany and the Netherlands – the countries that initially supplied a total of about 20 howitzers to the Ukrainian army. The repair, as well as the integration of software and ballistic data, cost Lithuania almost 2 million euros.

A few months ago, the Ministry of Defense of Lithuania announced the opening of a repair and logistics center, and in particular the joint venture Lithuania Defense Services, for comprehensive logistical support of combat vehicles belonging to the armed forces of Lithuania and other NATO countries. The described facility was created in Lithuania in June of this year. from Rheinmetall and Krauss-Maffei Wegmann.

The PzH 2000 is a German 155 mm self-propelled howitzer developed by Krauss-Maffei Wegmann and Rheinmetall AG for the German Army to replace the obsolete M109A3G [over 200 of the latter were sold to Greece years ago]. The vehicle’s ammo rack holds 60 rounds and 67 charges. PzH 2000 is characterized by a high rate of fire: 3 shots can be fired in 9 seconds, 10 shots in 56 seconds [from 10 to 13 shots per minute, depending on the degree of barrel heating].
