MOSCOW ($1=61.54 Russian Rubles) — The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation published a video of a test of the A-235 NUDOL anti-ballistic and anti-satellite missile. The test is recent and was conducted in Kazakhstan at the Sary-Shagan training ground.

The A-235 NUDOL is a hypersonic missile developed by Almaz-Antey. In the coming years, it will have to replace the current A-135 missile, also known as the ABM-4 Gorgon. The A-235 differs from the A-135 in two main ways: it is mobile [ie it will be transported] and it will carry a conventional or nuclear warhead.
Russia is said to develop three versions of the missile – long-range, medium-range, and short-range. Depending on the range, the maximum altitude of interception will also be different – from 40,000 meters high to 800,000 meters high.
The missile became famous on November 15, 20121, when the Russian Federation used it to destroy the Kosmos 1408 satellite. The case gained notoriety after debris from the satellite forced the crew of the International Space Station into hiding.
Last April, Mark Schneider, a retired senior Pentagon official, said the new Russian interceptor missiles would destroy “essentially our entire confrontational potential” that is based on satellites. And overall, “there is a huge asymmetry in space weapons.”
More about A-235 Nudol
A-235 Nudol flies at four times the speed of a bullet. If we assume that the average initial velocity of a bullet fired from a gun is 400 m/s, Nudol would have to fly at 1,600 m/s, which is hypersonic speed. However, there is no official information about the exact speed of the rocket.
The A-235 Nudol together with the S-500 anti-aircraft missile system is part of the integrated defense of Russian space. The two systems provide the so-called space nuclear umbrella of Russia’s strategy to counter the US and the nuclear potential of the Americans.
Test at the Sary-Shagan training ground these days is not the first. This is at least the third test of the missile in the past four years. This fact is a clear signal that Russia will soon announce the entry into the service of the missile in the composition of the Russian missile forces and that Moscow will soon translate it into operational readiness.
