JERUSALEM ($1=3.43 Israeli Shekels) — The Twitter user Israel Defensa posted on Twitter photos of fire tests of Israel’s new 155mm artillery system, called Roem. It should replace the currently used M109 Doher in the future.

Tests of the still unfinished artillery system with an open fighting compartment showed the changes made to the previous wheeled howitzer developed by the Israeli arms industry Sigma. The work on the implementation of the wheel solution is to reduce the operating costs of the self-propelled artillery used by the Israeli troops. The cannon howitzer tested was named Roem, and its earlier version was named Sigma.

In November 2021, Elbit Systems announced that it had secured a contract worth approximately $106 million to supply Sigma to an undisclosed country in the Asia-Pacific region. This meant getting additional funds to improve the version intended for the Israeli army.

Roem is an Israeli 155 mm artillery system developed by the Israeli company Elbit Systems in 2021. Its chassis is the American Oshkosh 10×10 truck with an armored crew cab numbering 3 soldiers. The fighting compartment of the machine is occupied by a 155 mm howitzer gun with a barrel length of 52 caliber.

It is connected to a fully automated loading system that allows crew reduction with a loading position. The range of this wheeled howitzer depending on the ammunition used is 30-40 + km. Ultimately, this system is to replace the 155 mm M109 Doher chain guns used by the Israel Defense Forces.
