WASHINGTON — The latest version of the Stryker, the Stryker ICVVA1, is starting testing very soon. The US Army received the first armor-piercing vehicle. Stryker is an eight-wheeled armored fighting vehicle. The tests are due to take place at Aberdeen [ATC] in Maryland.

The manufacturer of the Stryker ICVVA1 – Oshkosh Defense has equipped the new armor-piercing vehicle with a 30mm Medium Caliber Weapon System [MCWS]. It is integrated into Rafael’s SAMSON tower – an Israeli defense company. If production tests are successful in the coming weeks, the 30mm MCWS will be integrated into the I-2 Stryker Brigade Combat Team [SBCT] armor-piercing vehicles.

A total of seven upgraded Stryker systems are due to be delivered by the end of September this year. A year ago, the Pentagon invested in their production worth nearly 942 million USD. Oshkosh Defense is the lead manufacturer and project manager, but Pratt Miller Defense and Rafael Advanced Defense Systems are also involved.

Precision and lethal MCWS

Army-Technology writes that the tests will take place throughout June 2023. After that, the introduction of the Stryker ICVVA1 into the US Army inventory began.

The Stryker ICVVA1 is a precision, lethal and transformative solution, says Oshkosh Defense. “We look forward to equipping our Soldiers,” said Pat Williams, who is Oshkosh’s Vice President and General Manager of U.S. Army and Marine Corps Defense Programs. Williams highlighted the “deep commitment” the company has made to meet the needs of not only the US military but foreign customers as well. He praised the company’s team and technological capabilities.

There is logic in Williams’ words since the company was sought after to upgrade the Stryker. According to official data, 269 upgrades were carried out by Oshkosh Defense on the Stryker. Last but not least, the US government is seeking assistance from the company’s engineering team. BulgarianMilitary.com recalls that this April the company and the army signed an agreement on scientific research and technical cooperation. The two parties to the agreement will seek new developments in the field to improve the weapons capabilities, effectiveness, and combat capability of the US military.
