BAGHDAD ($1=1,453.42 Iraqi Dinars) — In northern Iraq, an unidentified strike in Dahuk province killed eight people, more than twenty, incl. children were injured. The targets of the unidentified planes were the sites of tourist infrastructure in the city of Zaho, where several groups from Baghdad had come to rest. The number of victims of the strike may rise, as some of the injured are in critical condition. The Turkish air force, which mistook the vacationers for PKK fighters, was believed to be behind the attack, according to resort officials.

Later, Iraq’s Foreign Minister said that it was the Turkish armed forces that were behind the deaths of tourists in the town of Zaho. At the same time, he noted that Baghdad is not seeking a military response to Ankara.

The Liwa Ahrar al-Iraq’s respond

Immediately after the Turkish airstrikes on the night of July 22-23 in Northern Iraq, fighters of the pro-Iranian group “Liwa Ahrar al-Iraq” fired fourteen rockets in the direction of the position of the Turkish armed forces in the Bashik region. One of them reportedly hit the target. There is still no information about damage or casualties. According to the group’s statement, the shelling was in retaliation for the killing of civilians in the town of Zaho.

Also, a video recording of the launch of the Qasef-2k kamikaze UAV in the direction of a Turkish military facility in Dakuk province appeared on the network. The pro-Iranian group Saraya Aul Ad-Dam claimed responsibility for the attack. The air defense systems of the military unit were shot down by drones. According to preliminary data, casualties and destruction were avoided. It should be noted that over the years, the targets of the Shia militants were the facilities of the US armed forces in Iraq.
