PARIS ($1=0.95 Euros) — The German company Diehl Defense, one of the leaders in the production of defense systems in Europe, has revealed its concept for a new strategic stealth air-to-air missile or FCAAM [Future Combat Air-to-Air Missile]. The missile was officially presented at the already concluded international military and security exhibition Eurosatori in Paris.

FCAAM is a new generation missile that should replace the well-known IRIS-T missile of this company, which is otherwise very modern. FCAAM is currently an early concept, rather than even a demonstrator of targeted solutions, not to mention the prototype.

The model embodies certain conceptual assumptions – FCAAM should be a missile with reduced radar detection. According to information provided by German sources, the currently installed missile sensors that detect incoming air-to-air or surface-to-air missiles are optoelectronic sensors, not microwave sensors, and nothing shows a change in the trend.

The FCAAM propulsion system must be a dual-range or multi-range rocket engine. BulgarianMilitary.com reminds you that at the moment a dual-range engine is very rare even in medium-range air-to-air missiles. The two-range engine leads us to the conclusion that FCAAM will be a short- and medium-range missile.

The targeting system must be term location, the FCAAM will be equipped with a two-way radio link for data exchange [for post-launch communication not only with the aircraft carrier but also with other “allied” intelligent weapons].

FCAAM should be characterized by better maneuverability [higher tolerated g value] than the current generation of air-to-air missiles and should be portable carried mainly in weapons compartments. The FCAAM was first developed as a weapon for the new-generation SCAF / FCAS French-German-Spanish air system.
