KYIV ($1=29.41 Ukrainian Hryvnias) — A video posted on social networks is gaining more and more popularity. A body camera of one of the foreign volunteers in the war in Ukraine, as well as a reconnaissance drone, filmed the operation to disable the Russian BTR-80 APC.

Foreign volunteers believed to be an American, a British, and a Canadian, armed with the RGW-90 HH launcher and the Czech RPG-75M, respectively, left the cover of the forest and targeted the Russian BTR-80 APC. The Czech RPG-75M does not fire immediately, but this is irrelevant, as one of the operators of the RGW-90 HH fired a missile at the Russian armored personnel carrier.

The second shot is not excellent, but it is enough. The Russian armored personnel carrier was hit in the back of the chassis. The Russian driver of the armored vehicle maneuvered quickly and also entered the forest to use the cover. However, the reconnaissance drone recorded on video that the damage had already been done. Apparently, the RGW-90 HH missile hit the ammunition compartment of the armored vehicle, as at the end of the video recored by the drone shows the ammunition exploding and evaporating.

There is no information on where or when these videos were shot, or whether the BTR-80 APC crew survived, was injured, or died. The recorded video does not show further actions on the part of the Russian crew, which would serve to answer the fate of the crew and the armored personnel carrier.

BulgarianMilitary.com recalls that Ukraine has 90mm MATADOR RGW90, which were donated by several European countries, including Germany, but Kyiv also bought 2,650 RGW90 weapon systems directly from the German manufacturer DND.

MATADOR RGW90

In the version currently available on the market, the RGW90 HH [HEAT / HESH] A2 uses a dual-mode mono-shaped charge warhead and can therefore also be used against armored vehicles. The weapon is capable of breaking through a triple brick wall.

The weapon, which weighs about eight kilograms, can pierce more than 600 millimeters of armored steel at a range of 500 meters – with a probability of hitting more than 90 percent of NATO’s standard target of 2.3 meters x 2.3 meters. Works perfectly in the temperature range from -46 ° C to + 71 ° C.

The weapon was designed in the 99th century and entered service in 2000. MATADOR RGW90 is produced in three places – Germany, Israel, and Singapore. Interestingly, the war in Ukraine was the first documented case in which the MATADOR RGW90 was used in full-scale military operations. However, Israel often uses RGW90 to drill walls for Israeli troops to pass through during its military operations in the Gaza Strip.

RGW-90 is one of the few weapons in Europe fully equipped with a high-precision and high quality optical sight with integrated perfect optical measuring scale, and provideing high resolution, and clear vision. The RGW-90″s optical sight is custom made for DND.

2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine

On 21 February 2022, the Russian government claimed that Ukrainian shelling had destroyed an FSB border facility on the Russia Ukraine border, and claimed that it had killed 5 Ukrainian soldiers who tried to cross into Russian territory. Ukraine denied being involved in both incidents and called them a false flag.

On the same day, the Russian government formally recognized the self-proclaimed DPR and LPR as independent states, according to Putin not only in their de-facto controlled areas, but the Ukrainian Oblasts as a whole, and Putin ordered Russian troops, including tanks, to enter the regions.

On 24 February 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered an invasion of Ukraine by Russian Armed Forces previously concentrated along the border. The invasion followed by targeted airstrikes of military buildings in the country, as well as tanks entering via the Belarus border.

Russia has so far not recognized the invasion of Ukraine as a “war”, although that is exactly what it is, claiming that it is a “special military operation”. According to the UN, in which Russia has its permanent representation, for military action to be defined as a “special military operation”, it must have a resolution issued by the UN. There is no such resolution, which automatically defines the military actions of the Russians as an invasion and war against the citizens of Ukraine.
