Greece received 130 M1117 ASVs: 260 hp, 40mm Mk 19, 50mm Browning

ATHENS, ($1=0.95 Euros) — At the end of April, the Greek Armed Forces received 130 M1117 Guardian armored security vehicles [ASV], according to a statement from the General Staff of the Army [GS] on its official Facebook profile. BulgarianMilitary.com reminds us that at the end of 2021 Greece received 44 M1117 vehicles. Thus, with the new delivery, the Greek Armed Forces have 174 units of M1117 ASV, and deliveries will continue until the full implementation of the agreement.

Greece participates in the US Excess Defense Articles [EDA] program and these combat vehicles are delivered under this program. The 130 units arrived at the port of Thessaloniki [northern Greece] and were transported to their destination.

The Greek Army uses the M1117 ASV for reconnaissance and surveillance military missions. A spokesman for the Greek General Staff of the Army said on Facebook that with the acquisition of 130 new vehicles for lust, the Greek army will significantly increase its combat capability and operational capabilities.

Regarding M1117 ASV

The M1117 ASV is an internal security vehicle based on the V-100 and V-150 Commando series of armored cars. He first entered service with the United States Army in 1999. Today, Afghanistan, Bulgaria, Canada, Colombia, Greece, Iraq, Kosovo, and the United States are the only operators of this infantry fighting vehicle. However, the M1117 ASV is part of the armament of the Islamic State and the Kurdish People’s Defense Units.

M1117 ASV has been involved in several military conflicts: the war in Afghanistan, the war in Iraq, the Colombian conflict, and the civil war in Syria.

The mass of the vehicle with full combat equipment is nearly 13.5 tons. The bumper consists of an integrated IBD modular expandable armor system, which is German-made and used in other weapon systems, including Leopard C2, armored vehicles of the CB90 series, German Fuchs armored personnel carrier, US Stryker, and the Canadian third generation of the Light Armored Vehicle [LAV].

The main armament of the M1117 ASV consists of a 40 mm Mk 19 grenade launcher, .50 caliber M2HB, and an M240H medium machine gun.

The M1117 ASV has a fully independent 4×4 suspension, and the heart of the combat vehicle is a Cummins 6CTA8.3 engine that provides 260 hp, and 828 foot-pounds. With one refueling of the tank, this vehicle travels a little over 760 km, and the maximum speed it can reach is 101 km / h.
