MOSCOW, ($1=79.98 Russian Rubles) — The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation announced on April 6 that the Black Sea coast crews, operators of the mobile coastal defense missile system K-300P Bastion-P, fired two SS-N-26 Strobile [P-800 Oniks in English Onyx] missiles at ground targets in Ukraine. The Russian Ministry of Defense does not say in which part of Ukraine were the targets that SS-N-26 Strobile missiles were supposed to hit.
“The crew of the coastal missile system Bastion from the Black Sea coast fired two high-precision missiles Onyx on certain ground targets in Ukraine,” said in a press release by the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.
The same day, Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov announced that the Russian military had destroyed five Ukrainian fuel and lubricant storage bases. Konashenkov announced their location: the villages of Radekhov, Kazatin, Prosyanaya, Nikolaev, and Novomoskovsk. According to Konashenkov, these five bases are the main suppliers of fuel for the military equipment of the Ukrainian armed forces located in the districts of Kharkiv, Nikolaev, and Donbas. The strikes were carried out using high-precision surface-to-surface and air-to-surface missiles.
SS-N-26 Strobile (P-800 Oniks)
SS-N-26 Strobile [P-800 Oniks] is a missile from the end of the Soviet era [1987-1988], which continues to be updated and upgraded to this day. She was officially accepted into the Main Missile and Artillery Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation in 2002.
The SS-N-26 Strobile was originally designed as an anti-ship cruise missile, but over the years the Russians have increased its use and today it is also used as a surface-to-surface missile, as is the case with a press release issued by the Russian Defense Ministry. In addition to the ship, the SS-N-26 Strobile can be launched from a submarine, as well as the K-300P Bastion-P ground-based missile system.
SS-N-26 Strobile weighs 3 tons and is powered by a ramjet, which provides 4 tons of traction. The operational range of the missile is from 600 to 800 km for the Russian Armed Forces, while for export the missile has a maximum range of 300 km. Reaches a top speed between Mach 2 and 3, flies at a maximum altitude of 14,000 meters, and navigates through midcourse inertial guidance, active radar homing-passive radar seeker head.
The warhead of SS-N-26 Strobile is 300 kg semi-armor piercing HE, thermonuclear. However, the export version has a warhead 200 kg semi-armor piercing HE. Both types have delay fuze.
2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine
On 21 February 2022, the Russian government claimed that Ukrainian shelling had destroyed an FSB border facility on the Russia Ukraine border, and claimed that it had killed 5 Ukrainian soldiers who tried to cross into Russian territory. Ukraine denied being involved in both incidents and called them a false flag.
On the same day, the Russian government formally recognized the self-proclaimed DPR and LPR as independent states, according to Putin not only in their de-facto controlled areas, but the Ukrainian Oblasts as a whole, and Putin ordered Russian troops, including tanks, to enter the regions.
On 24 February 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered an invasion of Ukraine by Russian Armed Forces previously concentrated along the border. The invasion followed by targeted airstrikes of military buildings in the country, as well as tanks entering via the Belarus border.
Russia has so far not recognized the invasion of Ukraine as a “war”, although that is exactly what it is, claiming that it is a “special military operation”. According to the UN, in which Russia has its permanent representation, for military action to be defined as a “special military operation”, it must have a resolution issued by the UN. There is no such resolution, which automatically defines the military actions of the Russians as an invasion and war against the citizens of Ukraine.
