The self-propelled 155mm howitzers that Lithuania received have been modernized. They will be distributed in the country’s armed forces as follows – 16 of them will be put on alert for future participation in hostilities, two of them will be used for training, and the other three will be used in the future for spare parts.

Panzerhaubitze 2000 German tracked self-propelled howitzer. It was developed especially for the German army by Krauss-Maffei Wegmann [KMW] and Rheinmetall. It has been produced from 1996 to the present day, and many of the existing models have undergone several improvements in recent years.

The PzH 2000 is said to be one of the most powerful and fast-firing howitzers in the world. For example, it can fire three rounds in nine seconds, ten rounds in 56 seconds, and can — depending on barrel heating — fire between 10 and 13 rounds per minute continuously.

PzH 2000 weighs nearly 59 tons, and nearly 12 meters is the length of the howitzer. The howitzer crew consists of five people – commander, driver, gunner, and two loaders. Depending on the projectiles used, the operational range of the howitzer is different. For example, if PzH 2000 shoots with DM121 Boattail hits targets at a distance of 30-36 kilometers if shoots with M1711 Base bleed hits targets at 4-47 kilometers, and if uses RAP hits a maximum of 67 kilometers.

The gun is 155 mm, German production, model L52 of Rheinmetall. Additionally, a 7.62 mm Rheinmetall MG3 light rail is installed on the howitzer turret. Logically, the engine is again German – MTU 881 Ka-500 which provides just under 1,000 horsepower or exactly 986 horsepower. This guarantees a maximum of 45 km / h on off-road terrain and 67 km / h on the road, and a maximum of 420 km can be covered with a single refueling of the PzH 2000 fuel tank.
