MUNICH, ($1=0.88 Euros)“I do not know what the intentions of the President of the Russian Federation, so I invited him to meet. That’s it. You need a second Syria?” This response of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy came on the air of the American television channel CNN. The reason for this was the question of how he interprets the intelligence of the United States and Ukraine, and what are the intentions of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

One is left with the impression that someone is seriously tightening the springs of the war between Russia and Ukraine. Someone uses Ukraine as a rabbit, which must be thrown to the wolves, and this feeling is growing.

The statement of the Ukrainian leader on television strongly contrasts with what he did earlier during the Munich Security Conference. In his speech, he said a few very serious things, the most important of which was the hint that Kiev is ready to consider that the 1994 Budapest Memorandum on Ukraine’s non-nuclear status may not be in force.

“Ukraine wants peace. Europe wants peace. The world says it doesn’t want to fight, and Russia says it doesn’t want to attack. Which of us is lying?” rhetorically or not, Zelenskyy asked during a speech in Munich: “The rules that were agreed upon by the world decades ago no longer work. We can neither anticipate new threats, nor are we effective in overcoming them. It’s like using a cough syrup instead of a Covid vaccine,” also he said.

The Ukrainian leader reiterated that Ukraine is ready to protect its population and the country’s territorial integrity, but hinted that Kiev needs real friends, not media partners. “Regardless, we will defend our beautiful country, whether there are 50,000, 150,000 or 1,000,000 soldiers on the border from any army. To really help Ukraine, we don’t need you to tell us exactly how many of these soldiers are and what weapons they have. Tell us how many people we have on our side,” Zelenskyy said.

His ironic comment on “Western media tactics” continued after he said that Kiev was ready to defend itself on “February 16, March 1 and December 31”, referring to the media hysteria in recent days, which states dates for the invasion, such as normally planned annual festivals.

Last but not least, Zelenskyy expressed an opinion that largely contrasts with the people of Eastern Europe, Russia and much of Central and Western Europe. “I hope that no one thinks of Ukraine as a convenient and eternal buffer zone between the West and Russia. This will never happen.”

Yes, there is a deep feeling that someone is slowly and methodically tightening the springs of the war between Russia and Ukraine. It is about influence, power and the well-known Cold War. Some people miss this war and I don’t think we will like the answer.
