The long-awaited order of the Polish government, which should significantly increase the combat capability of the Polish ground forces, is already underway. Warsaw will receive hundreds of systems and equipment in the coming years.

What exactly is Poland buying? 250 main battle tanks M1A2 Abrams SEPv3. This is the latest version of the American tank, which is currently replacing obsolete tanks in the US Army. Poland has decided to turn to the United States to buy tanks and heavy armored vehicles after Germany and France refused to include Poland in a joint venture under the MGCS [Main Ground Combat System / Main Ground Combat System] program. Under this program, French tanks Leclerc and German Leopard will be replaced in the coming years.

In addition to tanks, Poland will receive 26 M88A2 HERCULES, which are some of the largest armored recovery vehicles [ARVs] in the world and are used by military engineering troops. Together with them, Poland acquires 17 joint assault bridges M1110.

Poland’s order is huge, but the main systems and equipment it acquires are 250 AN / VLQ-12 CREW Duke counter-IED systems, 15 AGT1500 gas turbine engines, 9,168 120 mm M865 cone-stabilized target cartridges, 4,592 120 mm M1002 Target Practice Multipurpose Tracer [TPMP-T] projectiles, 13,920 120 mm M830A1 high explosive anti-tank [HEAT] TP-T cartridges, 6,960 120 mm XM1147 High Explosive multi-purpose tracer. Front repair systems are also included, Trailer mounted generators; Low-profile stations for ordinary remote-controlled weapons [CROWS-LP]; communication equipment; GPS receivers; ammunition; spare and repair parts; Special testing instruments and equipment [STTE], etc.

Of course, Poland also acquires machine guns – these are 276 units of M2 .50 caliber machine guns and 500 units of M240C 7.62 mm machine guns.

The United States says the sale will not only improve the combat capabilities of a NATO ally but will be a reason to ensure Europe’s security. “Poland will meet current and future threats by providing a reliable force capable of deterring adversaries and participating in NATO operations,” the Defense Security Cooperation Agency said in a statement.

More than 10 major manufacturers are involved in the production of the Polish order. Due to the nature of the contract, as well as due to the huge quantity, unlike other times, today the Defense Security Cooperation Agency does not announce when the deadlines for Poland to acquire the equipment. But, logically, it happens in stages over the next at least between 4-5 years.
