CAIRO, ($1=15.72 Egyptian Pounds) – The Spanish company Escribano Mechanical and Engineering has signed a cooperation agreement with the Egyptian company Arab International Optronics for the supply of 12.7 mm remote ground and naval weapons stations [Guardian and Sentinel] to the army and navy of the North African country. Arab International Optronics is a company in the Egyptian Ministry of Defense specializing in electro-optical systems. Through this company, Egypt has already closed the purchase of several remote stations, explained the Spanish company. These systems were shown to vehicles and boats during the EDEX fair held last week in Cairo.
During the international show, Egypt also expressed interest in the Guardian 30 with a missile launcher and the co-production of this remote weapons station in the country. Arab International Optronics, as a local partner of Escribano, exhibited a Guardian 30 model at its booth. The Spanish company will install this weapons station on the Serviola [Atalaya, Centinela, Serviola, and Vigía] patrol boats of the Spanish Navy and future F-110 frigates.
For his part, Escribano presented his FGK guidance kit. Egypt’s Ministry of Defense wants to test this system with its 155 mm ammunition and 122 mm missiles. The Ministry of Military Production has several factories that produce this ammunition locally, so the Spanish company emphasizes that Egypt is a potential market for integrating its kit.
Tests in INTA
Escribano recently completed a campaign with the National Institute of Aerospace Technology [INTA] to repeatedly launch MC25 guided missiles equipped with the FGK trajectory correction kit at the El Arenosillo [Cedea] experimental center in Huelva.
The initial single launch and multiple and consecutive launches of four MC25 missiles from the Teruel launcher demonstrated the capability of Escribano’s FGK, a controlled system that consistently achieves an accuracy of fewer than ten meters [CEP <10m].
