FN SCAR replaceя FR-F2 sniper rifles in the French army

PARIS, ($1=0.86 Euros) – The French army begins the transition to a new sniper rifle SCAR-H PR from the Belgian company FN Herstal, learned BulgarianMilitary.com. The new weapon is to replace the FR-F2, which was adopted in 1984.

The new SCAR-H PR sniper rifle will make its debut in the 27th Mountain Rifle Brigade, then should be used by all mountain troops, and later become the main sniper rifle of the French army, the country’s Defense Ministry said.

Note that the transition to SCAR-H Precision Rifles was announced in 2019, and the contract with FN Herstal covers 2600 units. And in the plans, by 2023 to put into service 2235 units.

SCAR-H PR is made under a 7.62×51 mm cartridge and, according to the French Ministry of Defense, provides effective fire at a distance of up to 800 meters. According to the terms of the contract, it is equipped with Schmidt & Bender optics, muffler, bipods, and other accessories.

In general, this sniper weapon is based on the famous assault rifle FN SCAR with a cartridge of 5.56×45 mm, which is gradually gaining popularity not only among special forces but also in the regular armies of the world. In particular, the armies of Belgium and Portugal are transferred to it, in addition, it was received by the Chilean Marines and the Peruvian army.
