MOSCOW, ($1=71.07 Russian Rubles) – Moscow believes that cooperation in the framework of the new partnership between the United States, Britain, and Australia, AUKUS, will create difficulties in the field of arms control and will not help solve problems to strengthen international security and stability, learned BulgarianMilitary.com, citing on a statement by the Russian Foreign Ministry.

This was stated by Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov to British Ambassador Deborah Bronet. He added that Moscow continues to study the possible consequences of the creation of this union.

The Russian side also “expressed hope that the participants in the AUKUS will strictly adhere to their commitments in the field of nuclear non-proliferation.”

The diplomats also discussed some other issues of mutual interest.

In September 2021, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Australia announced the creation of the AUKUS military alliance to protect their interests in the Indo-Pacific region. The first initiative under the new alliance was the creation of nuclear submarines for the Australian Navy.

Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov expressed the view that the creation of such alliances is aimed at eroding ASEAN formats.

Russia’s Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev called the creation of AUKUS an American adventure that undermines the foundations of stability in Asia.

Putin believes AUKUS undermines stability in the region

The creation of the AUKUS bloc, which includes Australia, the United States, and the United Kingdom, undermine regional stability, Russian President Vladimir Putin said on October 14.

During an interview with CNBC, Putin was asked whether he was concerned about the AUKUS alliance, whether it was creating “potential tension” and whether it was fraught with a “new cold war.”

“The creation of some blocs, including the one you mentioned, the United States – Great Britain – Australia, undoubtedly undermines regional stability, because, in my opinion, it is good to be friends with each other, but to be friends against someone. This is bad. It undermines the stability that we all talk about and about which we all care,” Putin said.

At the same time, he expressed the hope that “the situation will not develop according to some unpredictable scenario and will not cause any additional tensions in the region.”
