MOSCOW, BM, ($1= 73.15 Russian Rubles) – A Russian Su-35 multi-role fighter crashed in the Sea of Okhotsk during an exercise in the Eastern Military District in the Khabarovsk region, BulgarianMilitary.com has learned, citing the press service of the Eastern Military District of the Russian Ministry of Defense.

The incident happened yesterday, July 31. According to a press release, the fighter’s engine failed during a training flight. The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation says that the pilot managed to eject and was immediately found by the group for locating and searching. According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, a working group has been appointed to investigate the incident. More information is not provided.
Some Russian experts dispute the claim that the Russian fighter had a damaged engine. According to them, a fire broke out in the tail of the fighter, during which the pilot received permission to eject. They base their claim on the fact that the Su-35 is a twin-engine fighter and if one engine fails, the other will continue to operate.
The Russian news agency claims that a Su-35 fighter jet of the Chinese Air Force also crashed in China. So far, there is no official statement from the Chinese authorities about such an incident, but according to eyewitnesses quoted by Aviapro, the fighter was engulfed in flames.
Last year, a strange accident landed for more than 48 hours for all Chinese Su-35 fighters. During a training flight, the pilot of the Chinese fighter was forced to eject because, according to available information, the onboard computer and all electronic systems of the avionics failed. According to experts, this can happen with electronic suppression of systems. Chinese media claimed that such electronic suppression could only be carried out aboard an American reconnaissance aircraft. However, this information remains without continuation and there is no evidence of American intervention.
Su-35 fighter jet
Suchoi Su-35 is the name for two heavily upgraded versions of the Su-27 (Flanker). These aircraft are sometimes also referred to as Super Flankers.
The first variant was developed in the Soviet Union as early as the 1980s. The version, initially referred to as the Su-27M, had a revised airframe, duck wings, an enlarged radome for the N-011 radar and improved avionics. Financial problems in the 1990s and a lack of export demand contributed to the fact that the first Su-35 design was not developed to series production level despite numerous prototypes. Some machines were used by the Russian aerobatic team “Russkije Witjasi”.
In 2003, Suchoi began to modernize the Su-27 again extensively in order to create an interim solution until the Su-57 was introduced. The duck wings and the air brake of the first Su-35 draft were omitted, the airframe was reinforced and the avionics and radar improved. The more powerful engines have a thrust vector control and should allow supersonic speeds without afterburner. The Russian Air Force ordered a total of 48 machines bearing the type designation Su-35S. Another 50 aircraft were ordered in January 2016.
Based on the operational experience in Syria, among other things, the air inlets of the engines are modified to improve protection against foreign objects. Avionics hardware and software are being adapted to better combat ground targets.
