MOSCOW, BM, ($1= 74.22 Russian Rubles) – “In the waters of the White Sea, the lead frigate of Project 22350, Admiral of the Soviet Union Fleet Gorshkov, fired a Zircon hypersonic cruise missile at a ground target located on the coast of the Barents Sea,” the Russian Defense Ministry said on Monday.

“According to objective control data, the Zircon missile successfully hit the target with a direct hit at a distance of over 350 km. The tests confirmed the tactical and technical characteristics of the Zircon missile. The flight speed was about 7 Machs,” the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement. It is planned to equip submarines and surface ships of the Russian Navy with the Zircon complex, the Defense Ministry noted.
The military department reported successful test launches of the Zircon from the frigate Admiral Gorshkov, in particular, in December, November, and October 2020.
The lead frigate of Project 22350 “Admiral Gorshkov” is one of the most modern ships of the Russian Navy. On April 23 this year, the Northern Fleet announced that Admiral Gorshkov will complete testing of hypersonic weapons this year. The ships of this project will be the first regular carriers of such weapons, the Navy said.
