DAMASCUS, BM, ($1=73.06 rubles) – A unit of the Russian armed forces is blocking a military column of the international coalition led by the USA in Tell Tamra, Syria, BulgarianMilitary.com has learned, quoting the Russian channel Telegram Voenkory. According to the Russian edition of Lenta.ru, the Russian military blocked its Amarek counterparts yesterday, June 21.
The Russian military was on duty on the M-4 highway in Al-Hasakah province and recorded the movement of a coalition patrol. It included four armored vehicles MaxxPro and Oshkosh M-ATV. The military vehicles had American flags.
“The US military has moved to Russia without warning and violated existing conflict prevention mechanisms,” he said. As a result, the convoy’s movement of US forces was blocked and the coalition forces were forced to turn around.
Earlier, some sources reported that residents of the Syrian village of Farfara were throwing stones at an American patrol and expelling it while trying to cross the village.
Terrorist activity is underway
Earlier this month we reported that a process is underway in Syria in which illegal terrorist groups in southern Idlib are transferring dozens of fighters and armored combat vehicles. The Russian military, together with the Syrian Arab Army (SAA), has established the area of Saan and Maidalya in Idlib province in recent days, the number of attacks on the Syrian army has increased.
“According to objective means of control, illegal armed groups in the southern part of the Idlib de-escalation zone are transferring fighters and armored vehicles in the Saan and Maidalia region of Idlib province,” said Rear Admiral Vadim Kulit, deputy head of Russia’s War Reconciliation Center (CPVS) in the Syrian Arab Republic.
According to the Russian command, there is also a sharp increase in fighting between pro-Turkish jihadist battle groups and the Syrian army in the Ruja, Jubas, and Sarakib areas. The Rear Admiral cited at least 38 attacks by the Jabhat al-Nusra terrorist group, including seventeen attacks in Idlib province, eight attacks in Latakia province, four attacks in Aleppo province, and nine attacks in Hama province.
War in Syria
In February 2020, Turkey lost at least 62 troops killed in Syria. Nearly 100 soldiers were wounded, Syrian-backed forces destroyed dozens of Turkish armored vehicles, and more than ten drones, including drones, were shot down. Washington has repeatedly accused Moscow of involvement in the deaths of Turkish soldiers, Russia rejects these allegations.
In early March, the presidents of Russia and Turkey, Vladimir Putin and Recep Tayyip Erdogan, agreed that a ceasefire came into force in the Idlib de-escalation zone. Syrian President Bashar al-Assad later said that if the US and Turkish military did not leave the country, Damascus would use power.
The reason for the Russian-Turkish negotiations was a sharp aggravation of the situation in Idlib, where in January, a large-scale offensive by the Syrian army against the positions of the armed opposition and terrorists began.
Government forces recaptured nearly half of the Idlib de-escalation zone and left behind several Turkish observation posts. After that, Ankara sharply increased its military contingent in the region and launched the operation “Spring Shield” to push the Syrian troops. Militants are loyal to Ankara and support Turkey.
