LONDON, (BM) – The three strongest European countries – Britain, France, and Germany – are beginning to produce a new European tank of the next generation. The source of information is the Russian edition of Popular Mechanics. According to the magazine, the tank will be called Eurotank and should be ready for operation by the end of 2035.

The author of the article, Alexander Ponomarev, claims that the United Kingdom has taken the first steps to implement the project by starting negotiations between the three countries. The project’s idea is for Eurotank to replace the existing Leopard 2 and Leclerc tanks. They will be unable to perform their primary functions during the third decade of the new millennium. The second reason is that other countries, including “enemy” ones, are working on next-generation tanks.
Krauss-Maffei Wegmann, Nexter, and Rheinmetall are expecting to be the driving force behind the project. Military experts and political scientists believe that this is the first project that can show the scale of European cooperation after the entry of Brexit. Perhaps, for this reason, the role of London is minimized – an observer.
Russia is creating an amphibious tank
The Russian T-14 Armata tank continues to be the leading advertising platform for the Russian ground forces and armored vehicles. One development, however, was overshadowed. This new armed vehicle is the Russian amphibious tank.
According to the Russian MoD sources and the Russian media Lenta.ru, the amphibious tank is repaired based on the self-propelled howitzer Sprut-SDM1. It expects to receive better armor and a better chassis. The Russians speculate that they will keep a 125-mm cannon on the amphibious tank, which will allow the crew to use the full range of available tank shells.
The Russian edition of Popular Mechanics claims that the tank has already developed a prototype and has even passed tests in the Black Sea. According to Russian journalists, the amphibious tank has successfully passed several tests, including overcoming water obstacles and shooting. Russian military experts comment that the new Russian tank’s firepower is equal to the Russian T-80 and T-90 tanks.
