TEL AVIV, ROME, (BM) – Close cooperation between Israel and European Italy in the field of military trade continues, learned BulgarianMilitary.com. According to reports in the Italian press, Italy and Israel signed an agreement on mutual acquisition of military equipment on September 22 this year. The agreement was signed by Major General Amir Eschel of the Israeli army and General Niccolo Falsaperna of the Italian military.
It should be noted that the new agreement signed between Italy and Israel is actually part of a previous one signed last year. Experts say this is the final part of last year’s agreement and includes several main components.
According to the information, Israel will buy and acquire from Italy training helicopters manufactured by the local and European aviation leader Leonardo, model AW119Kx. We are talking about 12 helicopters that will serve the Israeli army in the future training of their military units. In addition to the deal between the two countries, Israel will buy a flight simulator. Israel has already received 7 of the helicopters in question, and the remaining 5 are expected this year and next.
At the same time, Italy will buy from Israel the famous launcher and missiles of the Spike system, which is manufactured by Raphael and distributed worldwide. However, Italy will purchase additional and advanced helicopter simulators needed for helicopters already in service. Part of this agreement will be implemented by another large Israeli company, namely Elbit Systems.
Relations between Italy and Israel in the defense industry date back years, but intensified in 2011, when the two countries again implemented a large-scale agreement under which Israel bought 30 M-346 Lavi training aircraft and Italy bought an Israeli satellite OPSAT 3000 and two G550 CAEW reconnaissance aircraft.
Benny Ganz, Israel’s defense minister, welcomed the signing of the agreement between the countries, stressing that it was the completion of a long road that would allow the Israeli military to be even better prepared and trained in handling Italian aircraft.
For his part, Israeli Major General Amir Eshel said the new agreement would allow the Jewish state to complete a long process of replacing old training planes. Eschel did not miss the opportunity to emphasize that such a cross-purchase would not only benefit the Israeli military industry, but also the country’s economy as a whole.
As wer reported on September 1 three of Israel’s leading defense companies have significantly improved their positions this year.
The leader of the military high-tech company Elbit Systems increased sales by 22% (to $ 4 billion) and moved up from 35th to 31st place in the rating of the international auditing company Baker Tilly, based in London.
This breakthrough was largely due to the merger with another Israeli defense company, IMI-Israel Defense Industry (formerly TAS). Elbit completed its acquisition at the end of 2018.
Among the recent large orders of Elbit, one can mention the victory in the tender for the supply of electronic components for the US Army Bradlay infantry fighting vehicles in the amount of $ 79 million over 5 years. This was reported yesterday by the Israeli edition Bizportal.
The state-owned aviation industry moved up from 44th to 41st place with $ 3 billion in military sales (+ 14%). Military products account for two-thirds of its sales.
Finally, Rafael Advanced Defense Systems climbed from 46th to 44th place with $ 2.75 billion in sales, up 6% from last year.
Military scientists have found a way to completely hide objects from a radar
The technology of radar invisibility, developed by scientists from Italy and Russia, is devoid of the main disadvantages of existing solutions for stealth masking, as we reported in May this year.
Radars find objects by capturing EM waves reflected from them. Stealth masking is provided with special coatings that absorb the radar waves, as well as the use of unusual shapes that allow you to redirect the reflected waves not towards the radar.
But as a result, such a disguise worsens the aerodynamic qualities of airplanes, plus, stealth coverage is very expensive. In addition, existing stealth technologies do not provide 100 percent radar invisibility.
In the new Russian-Italian technology, camouflage is created by a fundamentally new solution. Electromagnetic waves generated by radars are not reflected at all from the object and are not absorbed by the coating, but pass through as if there is no object.
An innovative solution allows you to hide from radars objects of any size – even large military complexes, even nanoscale electronic devices. Plus, the new technology is much cheaper than traditional stealth coatings. The development is based on the latest metamaterial, which has a whole range of unique magnetic, electrical, optical, as well as other properties.
