NEW DELHI, (BM) – India will not take part in the Caucasus-2020 international exercises, learned BulgarianMilitary.com citing several sources. The event should take a place in September.
According to a representative of the country’s Defense Ministry, the decision to refrain from sending to Russia was made in connection with the coronavirus pandemic. He wrote about this on Twitter. The Russian side has already received a notice of India’s refusal.
Earlier, the ANI agency, citing its sources in the country’s Ministry of Defense, reported that India does not exclude the option of refusing to participate in international exercises taking place in the Russian Federation in 2020.
Representatives of five foreign states were to take part in the Caucasus-2020 exercises, as reported in the Russian Ministry of Defense.
According to the latest data, India is in third place in the world in terms of the number of cases after the United States and Brazil. The total number of people infected with covid-19 in the state has exceeded 3.4 million people.
Coronavirus has also limited India’s military spending
As BulgarianMilitary.com reported in April this year, the Ministry of Finance of India has tightened the policy of allocating funds to the programs of the Ministry of Defense of the country due to the financial and economic effect of the pandemic of the coronavirus COVID-19.
The publication bases its forecast on the fact that on April 8, the Ministry of Finance of India called on the military department to adjust the programs for the 2020-2021 financial year, taking into account the reduction in funding.
According to some reports, Indian authorities do not expect economic improvement until at least March 2021.
What kind of programs the Indian Ministry of Defense will suffer from underfunding, the publication does not specify, but claims that this will be a serious blow to plans to modernize the army and navy.
BulgarianMilitary.com recalls that India has a delay in receiving weapons and military equipment from its partners for already ordered equipment.
NATO accused China and Russia of using the coronavirus pandemic to destabilize the alliance
Russia and China are using a pandemic to destabilize the West,” NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg warned in an interview with La Repubblica on May 15.
At the same time, the politician drew attention to the fact that these countries are resorting to propaganda, “fake news” and misinformation for political influence on NATO and EU partners.
Stoltenberg expressed confidence that the coronavirus was not artificially created, but noted that he had some doubts. He advocated conducting an international assessment of the situation in order to find out the causes of this virus.
“Chinese and Russian government and non-government forces are massively disseminating misinformation and propaganda in order to pervert the truth,” the politician emphasized. “Of course, we have shown that we are united and help each other.”
In an interview, he explained that as long as there is free media, disinformation cannot win. “I have seen campaigns against all allies, but polls continue to show great support for NATO, including in Italy,” he said.
“We must be ready for the second wave of the disease (…) We need to strengthen our immunity so as not to lose control over the infrastructure of special significance,” he warned.
In a conversation, NATO Secretary General noted that the 5G technology of the Chinese company Huawei may be dangerous. In his view, the allies should avoid foreign investment, which could jeopardize the confidentiality of these citizens of NATO countries.
