Egypt has become the third state on the planet that has decided to acquire the Su-35. Cairo ordered 24-28 of the latest aircraft from Moscow. Of course, after receiving them, the combat effectiveness of the Egyptian Air Force will seriously increase.

After the overthrow of the West-oriented Islamist government in 2013, the current Egyptian authorities set about modernizing their armed forces.

The Egyptians have already bought from the Russians 52 light MiG-29M fighters, the same number of Ka-52 attack helicopters, R-77 medium-range (110 km) air-to-air missiles, S-300VM and Buk-M2 air defense systems. Therefore, Israel’s military-technological advantage in the region will soon end.

These frames were published on July 22, 2020 in the NskPlanes group on the Vkontakte social network. The presented photos show five examples of the Su-35 with numbers 9210-9214.

At the same time, the coloring of the Egyptian Su-35 coincides with the colors of the MiG-29M of the Egyptian Air Force. They differ in color from the Russian ones, so these images inspire some confidence.

The Egyptians expect to receive the first batch of Su-35 by the end of this year, after the end of factory tests in Komsomolsk-on-Amur. These fighters will become not only the most advanced machines in Africa, but throughout the Arab world. Moreover, the Su-35 are superior in all respects not only to the Algerian Su-30 and Saudi F-15SA, but also to the Israeli F-15C and F-15I.

The Su-35 has 75% less radar signature than the F-15, Militrary Watch is sure. They are more maneuverable due to the first-class AL-41 aircraft engine, which has 35% more thrust than the F110 engine on the F-15.

In addition, the Su-35s fly much farther, are equipped with good radar and can carry more payload, including long-range (up to 300 km) R-37 air-to-air guided missiles.

Russia is moving according to plan with the production of Egyptian fighters

As we reported on May, some details of the contract for the supply of Egyptian Air Force multifunctional Su-35 fighters became known.

According to source the Gagarin Komsomolsk-on-Amur Aviation Plant began production of Su-35 fighters for Egypt. A TASS source said then that because of the situation with the coronavirus, it is not yet clear when to wait “for the delivery of the first batch of aircraft to the Egyptian side.”

An another source from Russian Arms Trade Center said that the first two fighters for Egypt should be transferred to the African country before the end of this year. The full contract is planned to be completed in 2023.

We reported on May 15 that Egypt has signed a contract with Russia to acquire the largest batch of Russian Su-35 fighters. Thus Egypt will become the first country in the Middle East to receive first-class Russian combat aircraft, and the second foreign owner of Russian Su-35 fighters.

Recall that the Wall Street Journal previously reported that the Pentagon and the US Department of State in a joint letter to the Egyptian authorities expressed threats of sanctions against Cairo in the case of the acquisition of Russian Su-35 fighters.

It should be noted that one of the reasons for the acquisition of Russian military equipment was the US refusal to sell its fifth-generation fighter planes to Egypt.

According to a TASS source, the contract was prepared and signed in the spring of 2018, and apparently Egypt has not made a payment, hoping to be able to acquire American fighters of the fifth generation.

The US refusal apparently forced the African country to make the first payment of the treaty and formally ratify it.

We should not be surprised at all by Egypt’s desire to buy the Su-35 from Russia after the US refused. Although the Su-35 is a 4 ++ generation aircraft, many American analysts in recent years have argued that it is perhaps the best and most dangerous aircraft of the Russian Air Force.

The American magazine The National Interest called the Russian Su-35 fighter a threat to American aircraft.

The text of the article, published on March 14 this year, states that the Su-35 can be opposed to the US Air Force fighters F-15, F-18 and even F-35.

The publication describes the main advantages of the Russian aircraft as its maneuverability superior to the evasion methods of almost all existing fourth-generation fighters and weapons.

“Against the background of the rearmament of Israel, Egypt is fully aware that they need reliable fighters capable of cracking down on both the F-16 and the F-35,” some military specialists note.

The main reason Egypt bought Russian fighters was the US refusal to sell them the F-35. Why did this happen?

According to many experts, the Russian Su-35 fighter is the real air threat to Russia. US analysts have long argued that this machine can handle the F-15, F-18 and F-35.

However, the real reason for the United States to refuse to sell its equipment to Cairo is not the technical capabilities of the aircraft, but the policy that Washington is pursuing towards its partners.

In this case, we are talking about Israel. The United States has so far not sold weapons to a client that would threaten the Pentagon’s position in the region. In this way, they try to balance the balance of power.

The problem comes from the fact that the Russian military-military complex does not think so. If there is a customer, whether Western or Eastern, Russia will sell without worry. See Turkey, a NATO member and US partner, has bought S-400 air defense systems from Putin.

By refusing to sell planes to Egypt, the Americans are trying to reduce the technical military capabilities of a country ready to go to war with Israel. But was a successful move in this case when Cairo bought a competing fighter?
