MOSCOW, (BM) – The Russian S-400 recorded all launches of the Ukrainian R-360 Neptune cruise missiles, reports Avia.pro. The fact that Ukraine launched its missiles in the affected area of the S-400 systems allowed the Russian military to work out the destruction of the Ukrainian R-360 Neptune, learned BulgarianMilitary.com citing Russian sources from the Ministry of Defence.
It is reported that the interception was successful. According to experts, it is unlikely that the Russian defense department refused the unique opportunity to shoot down Ukrainian cruise missiles, which were launched during testing from test sites in southern Ukraine.
According to analysts, the fact that Ukraine decided to carry out test launches near the Crimea played against Kiev itself. After all, the Russian military was not only able to successfully work out the detection of launches of cruise missiles, but in almost real conditions they were captured and destroyed by electronic launches.
In fact, the test launches allowed the Russian military to understand that, if necessary, the Neptune R-360 can be eliminated even without the use of air defense systems. For the detection of Ukrainian missiles were used, including electronic intelligence stations, wrapped in the Crimea.
Analysts note that the Ukrainian cruise missile R-360 “Neptune” was developed on the basis of the Soviet cruise missile, so for the Russian military there should not be any problems with its interception.
The test of the Ukrainian Neptune cruise missile
Ukraine conducted test launches from its new Neptune ground-based cruise missile system; firing took place at the Alibi firing range in the Odessa region as we reported on June 1.
According to Oleg Korostelev, director general of the Kiev design bureau Luch, the installation hit two sea targets at a distance of 85 and 110 km, firing two rockets at once.
In July last year, the former secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine (NSDC), Oleksandr Turchynov, stated that these cruise missiles could destroy the Crimean Bridge in a few minutes.
“Our cruise missiles will be able to destroy Russian warships of any class, not only in the Black and Azov Sea, but also in their ports. And if necessary, within a few minutes to demolish the bridge, which Russia is so proud of,” Turchinov said.
According to him, the “Neptunes” were created in an extremely tight time frame, when the threat from the Black and Azov Seas loomed over Ukraine.
In response to his words, the State Duma deputy and the head of the LDPR party Vladimir Zhirinovsky warned that under such a scenario, Ukraine would cease to exist as a state.
A member of the Federation Council Committee on Foreign Affairs from the Republic of Crimea Sergey Tsekov also assured that both the Crimea and the Crimean Bridge have reliable protection, so they will not suffer.
Ukraine continues to develop its missile program
As we reported on April 2 this year another test of the Olkha-M (Alder) missile took place in Ukraine, despite the declared emergency regime due to the outbreak of a new type of coronavirus.
This was announced on his Facebook page by the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) of Ukraine Alexey Danilov.
No coronavirus will stop the implementation of the Ukrainian missile program! There is good news – on March 30-31, another successful test of the Olkha-M rocket was conducted by GKKB Luch,” Danilov wrote.
According to him, “for the first time in Ukraine,” experts reached the target’s defeat at a distance of 120 km. During the tests, difficult weather conditions were observed, but the launches were successful.
Danilov also published a short video of the Olkha-M rocket launch from a mobile installation. He stressed that the country’s Defense Ministry and the General Staff of the Armed Forces are participating in the implementation of the Ukrainian missile program.
S-400 missile system was tested also on F-22 and F-35 few days ago
BulgarianMilitary.com recalls that on July 6 Turkey tested the delivered Russian S-400 Triumph on fifth-generation American fighters.
The test results were not disclosed, but judging by the lack of complaints, it can be assumed that the country is completely satisfied with the complexes.
We are talking about the Russian S-400 air defense systems deployed at the Myurt airbase. Triumphs were tested at least three times on American stealth. AviaPro news agency indicates that not only F-35 aircraft, but also more classified F-22s appeared in the detection range of systems.
Fifth generation fighters were sent to rotation in the Middle East through the Black Sea and directly Turkey. Their route ran approximately 170-200 kilometers from the Turkish Air Force Airbase Myurt. Therefore, the Turkish side had a great opportunity to test the complexes for aerodynamic purposes.
“The Russian Federation supplied Turkey with two batteries of the S-400 system from July to September. S-400s are currently based at Myrted Air Base, located near the Turkish capital. Tests are scheduled to continue until the end of the year” Fighter Jets World magazine informed.
The Turkish department reported that Russian systems are being deployed and tested. It is likely that they are already ready for combat duty. However, it is possible that Turkey wants to get NATO approval to avoid criticism.
What S-400 missile system is?
S-400 Triumph is a Russian long-range and medium-range anti-aircraft missile system, anti-aircraft missile system (SAM). S-400 is designed to destroy all modern and promising means of aerospace attack [including hypersonic].
According to Western analysts, the S-400, along with systems such as the Iskander OTRK and coastal anti-ship systems of the Bastion class, plays a key role in the new concept of the Russian Armed Forces, known in the West as the “Access Denied Zone” [Anti-Access / Area Denial, A2 / AD], which consists in the fact that NATO troops cannot be and move within the range of A2 / AD restricted area systems without the risk of causing unacceptable damage to them.
Triumph is the name of the export version. The market price of one division of the S-400 anti-aircraft missile system is about $ 500 million.
Technical characteristics of S-400 missile system
The performance characteristics of the S-400 Triumph are: detects a target at a distance of 600 km; strikes a target at a distance of 400 km; the maximum speed of the hit targets – 4.8 km / s; at the same time can fire 36 targets with pointing up to 72 missiles on them; deployment time of the system from the stowed state – 5-10 minutes; the time to bring the system’s assets into combat readiness from the deployed state is 3 minutes.
How does the Triumph air defense system work?
The S-400 Triumph is not just an installation for launching missiles, but a whole complex of coordinated and complex systems, the components of which are located on high-cross-country vehicles.
The entire process from detecting to destroying a target occurs automatically:
- The radar system (radar) detects hundreds of targets within a radius of 600 km and determines their nationality.
- Data is sent to the command post (55K6E). He, in turn, distributes targets between several launchers (5P85TE2).
- Each command post can simultaneously control eight air defense systems, each of which carries up to 12 launchers. They, in turn, accommodate four missiles with different masses, launch ranges and capabilities.
- Depending on the type of target, an air defense system selects a missile. The S-400 Triumph is armed with missiles with different weights, launch ranges and capabilities: 48N6E, 48N6E2, 48N6E3, 9M96E and 9M96E2.
- Ultra-long-range missiles (up to 400 km) are capable of destroying targets even beyond the reach of targeting locators, for which they have unique homing heads. After climbing at the command of such a rocket itself goes into search mode.
