As stated, “the implementation of this program is in the interests of US foreign policy and national security and will improve the security of the NATO ally, which is an important force for ensuring political stability and economic progress in Europe.”

The notice notes that this sale will expand France’s ability to counter existing and future threats by replacing the obsolete Hawkai E-2C. In addition, the E-2D will ensure the compatibility of the French Navy with the US Navy.

Northrop Grumman Systems Corp. Aerospace Systems, a division of Aerospace Systems, was selected as the main contractor for the project. If it is necessary to complete the offset program accompanying the contracts, its conditions will be determined during further negotiations between the buyer and the contractor.

The notice of sale is published in accordance with the requirements of American law and does not mean that contracts for the sale of the specified equipment in the requested volume will be necessarily concluded.

As TsAMTO [news agency – ed.] reported, currently the French Navy has three Hawkai E-2s in service. The purchase of the latest AWACS aircraft has been considered for quite some time. Last year, the French Ministry of Defense confirmed its intention to conclude a contract for their supply in 2020.
