TRIPOLI, (BM) – The Libyan national army will fight against Turkey and its mercenaries, Haftar said while inspecting the military camp in Benghazi, made a statement about the main goal of the Libyan National Army (LNA).
According to the commander-in-chief, it consists in combating Turkish expansion and hired militants who arrived in Libya from Ankara, and not with the so-called Government of National Accord (GNA).
According to the channel Al Hadath, on the eve of Haftar visited the military camp of Gary Eunice, where he spoke to the military. Haftar called all the military a duty to liberate Libya from the “evil elements” and ensure the stability so necessary for the country.
According to Haftar, “a soldier is a status that is given to those who show allegiance to their country. A status that not everyone deserves.” In his opinion, a soldier is a person who has been taught to fight, to sacrifice everything for the sake of the Motherland and to be organized.
The Libyan military, according to Haftar, needs to remember why and against whom they are fighting. Their enemies are foreign occupiers and militants. Libya is now in a difficult situation – Turkey is making attempts to capture it with the help of Syrian militants.
The task of the LNA is to drive them out of the country and restore peace to their homeland. At the end of his speech, Haftar thanked the loyal LNA fighters.
Haftar’s Air Force carried out an airstrike on Turkish air defense in Libya
BulgarianMilitary.com recalls that on on July 05 attacks on the strategically important El-Batuya airbase, located 100 km southwest of Tripoli, were carried out by combat aircraft of the Libyan National Army (LNA).
“The Libyan National Army Air Force attacked military equipment based on El-Batu. The Turkish Hawk anti-aircraft missile systems, radar systems and KORAL EW systems deployed there were destroyed,” the source said.
He clarified that as a result of the bombing, Turkish soldiers may be killed.
The agency, referring to the interlocutor, reports that the LNA Air Force made raids after the Minister of National Defense of Turkey Hulusi Akar and the head of the General Staff of the Turkish Armed Forces Yashar Guler, who were in the country on an official visit at the invitation of the Government of National Accord, left Libya.
Recall that in Libya, a civil war has been waged for several years. One of the forces is the GNA, led by Faiz Saraj. The other side is the LNA led by Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar.
Turkey is on the side of the GNA, providing direct military support in Libya. On July 4, Turkish Minister of Defense Hulusi Akar announced that the Turkish army would not give up its presence in Libya.
There was also an air strike a week ago
As we reported on July 2 a mysterious attack was carried out over the Al-Watiyah Airbase in western Libya last night, causing a number of explosions southwest of the capital city, Tripoli.
Citing an unnamed source, the Sputnik News Agency quoted the local as saying: “The residents of the city of Al-Rajban and its environs have heard the sound of explosions and flights flying near the Al-Watiyah military base.”
The source pointed out that “unknown aircraft bombed sites near the Al-Watiyah military base in the western part of the country with a continued flight over the western mountains.”
No entity has claimed responsibility for this attack.
The Al-Watiyah Airbase is currently under the control of the Turkish-backed Government of National Accord (GNA) forces.
They took control of the Al-Watiyah Airbase during their large-scale counter-offensive against the Libyan National Army (LNA) in April and May.
Libya is suffering from an armed conflict that has claimed thousands of lives, following the fall of the government of the late leader Muammar Gaddafi in 2011.
Libyan tribes for the Russia participation
Libyan tribes want Russia to play a more important role in resolving the crisis in the country, as we reported earlier today [July – ed.] citing the vice-chairman of the supreme council of the sheikhs and elders of the tribes of Libya, as-Senusi al-Khalik statement.
According to him, the position of the Russian Federation on resolving the conflict is strong and meets the national interests of the residents of Libya. He called the Russians strong allies with great experience. Al-Khalik also noted that most of the weapons in Libya are specifically Russian or Soviet-made.
Earlier, the Supreme Council of Sheikhs and Elders of the Libyan Tribes wanted to open a bank account in Russia to distribute profits from the sale of oil to all residents of the country. The money will go to the development of the healthcare system, education and infrastructure in the state.
Libyan civil war
In Libya, armed clashes are currently taking place between supporters of different leaders. The country is led by the Government of National Accord (GNA), headed by Prime Minister Fayez Saraj, the “eastern government” led by Abdullah Abdurrahaman at-Thani.
The eastern government is supported by the commander of the Libyan National Army, Khalifa Haftar.
Recall that January 13 in Moscow, negotiations were held between the heads of the Libyan National Army (LNA) Khalif Haftar and the Government of National Accord (GNA) Faiz Sarraj. Also present were members of the Foreign Ministries of Russia and Turkey.
On the meeting the commander of the Libyan National Army (LNA), Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, has notified Russia about the conditions for continuing negotiations on the signing of a peace agreement in Libya.
According to the requirements of Haftar, the militias operating in Libya are required to surrender weapons in the period from 45 to 90 days. This process should be controlled by a special commission created by the LNA together with the UN.
Haftar also refused to recognize Turkey as an intermediary in resolving the situation in Libya, since the Turkish side is not neutral and supports the Government of National Accord (GNA).
