WASHINGTON, (BM) – The Government Services Department, together with the US Special Operations Forces Command [USSOFC], has entered into an additional contract with Polaris Government and Defense [a division of Polaris] for the supply of light SUVs for the Polaris MRZR Alpha, learned BulgarianMilitary.com.
Polaris competed in the tender with Textron.

The cost of the 7-year contract, signed on May 29, 2020, is up to $ 109 million. In total, Polaris will deliver up to 814 LTATVs [Lightweight Tactical All-Terrain Vehicle].
The contract officially renews the current 5-year agreement, concluded in July 2015, for the supply of the United States MTR under the LTATV program for an indefinite number of ultra-light off-road vehicles: two-seater MRZR-2 and four-seater MRZR-4.
The new modification also provides for the accommodation of two and four passengers and will be available in seven versions, expanding the capabilities of special forces. Designed on a completely new chassis, the MRZR Alpha is the new generation of light tactical vehicles.
According to the USSOFC requirements, the new car must have characteristics that provide intermediate capabilities between the Polaris ATV MV850 and General Dynamics’s all-terrain vehicle GMV 1.1 (Ground Mobility Vehicle). So, the maximum weight of the vehicle in the double version should not exceed 1150 kg, and for the four-seater – 1360 kg with a power reserve of 320 km. The MRZR Alpha also meets the size and weight requirements for transporting cargo in the cargo compartments of airplanes, helicopters and V-22 convertiplanes.
Polaris is a leading provider of ultralight tactical vehicles for the US Armed Forces. At the same time, the MRZR Alpha is the 11th version of the machine, produced in 12 years. Polaris has been supplying cars to the United States since 2005. Light weight and high off-road patency make them an effective solution for ensuring mobility of troops.
The MRZR Alpha is engineered with technology and innovation from a wide range of Polaris products. In particular, engineers learned from the design of the snowmobile chassis, the redesign of RZR all-terrain sports cars and modifications to off-road racing cars. The machine is designed with innovation in the near future, with an architecture that integrates new technologies. This made it possible to obtain a solution with increased power, greater payload, ground clearance and service life.
MRZR Alpha will be manufactured at one of Polaris’s factories and research centers in Roseau, Minnesota.
The versatility of the MRZR Alpha is enhanced by more power and payload. Polaris first introduced the MRZR platform in 2012 and continued to improve the vehicle to meet the requirements of the US Armed Forces and more than 40 allied nations.
Since its inception, the MRZR platforms have demonstrated the ability to equip UAV countermeasure systems [C-UAS], armaments and high-energy laser systems, reconnaissance systems, communication systems, command and combat control systems, autonomous functioning packages, and stretchers for evacuating the wounded and injured.
During the 1980s and 1990s. The growing US demand for Polaris SUVs has led the company to become the first manufacturer of all-terrain military vehicles for the Special Operations Forces and the United States. In 2005, a division for servicing military customers was created – Polaris Defense. Polaris is currently developing, designing and manufacturing in the USA MV850 ATV, MRZR and DAGOR machines.
