The company will therefore have to close its factories located at Germany. Such a radical business decision is to be dictated by increasing restrictions in the field of sporting weapons and the civilian market in Germany, but also by the possible preference of other brands of weapons when supplying German police formations and the army.

SIG Sauer is to close the factory in Eckernförde in the Land of Schleswig-Holstein by the end of the year, which history dates back to the 1950s. The company will eventually have to dismiss approx. 125 employees, as well as act properly within the entire holding company to which it belongs, to complete existing production plans.

According to the information presented by NDR, the key problem for SIG Sauer’s operation on the German market was to be the issue of systematically bypassing their weapons in tenders in Germany. This attitude was to be associated with the fact of SIG Sauer’s activities on international markets.

Thus, the branch noted financial problems and had to be supported by shareholders. Sig Sauer Inc., located in Newington, in the US state of New Hampshire, may become the beneficiary of the decision. It should be remembered that SIG Sauer is doing very well on the market in the United States, both in the context of civil and sports trading, as well as contracts with institutional customers.

It is worth recalling deliveries of over 420 thousand M17 and M18 pistols (militarized SIG P320 variants) selected in January 2017 in the XM17 Modular Handgun System program.

In addition, the company also operates in Switzerland. Interestingly, the Eckernförde factory itself has recently been modernized.

DW informs that a big image blow on the German market for SIG Sauer was to be the case of prosecutors examining the issue of exporting this brand’s weapons to Columbia and Mexico.

Especially the German left pressed for clarification of all aspects related to arms transfers, without the approval of the Berlin authorities.
