“The parties failed to agree on a price for the production of AK-203 by the end of May for India and the possible export of automatic machines abroad” informed the Indian sources.

Discussion by the parties of the production price of AK-203 was hindered, including by restrictions due to the coronavirus pandemic, they acknowledged. In view of the current situation, it is unlikely that a joint Russian-Indian venture will be able to begin production of the AK-203 this year.

In February 2020, the Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation of Russia announced that it was counting on the manufacture of the first batch of AK-203 assault rifles in India this year.

In March 2019, in the city of Corwa (state of Uttar Pradesh), the Indo-Russian Rifles Private Limited factory was opened for the production of automatic machines of the AK “two-hundredth” series. Then the head of Rosoboronexport, Alexander Mikheev, noted that the parties agreed on the production of 750 thousand rifles, mainly from local components.

The Kalashnikov assault rifles of the 200th series are considered a simplified version of the AK-12 and AK-15 assault rifles, adopted by the Russian army. AK-203 is designed for a caliber of 7.62 × 39 mm. Magazine capacity – 30 rounds, rate of fire – 600 rounds per minute. The installation of the GP-34 grenade launcher, a standard bayonet-knife is possible.
