DAMASCUS, (BM) – The Syrian military command announced its readiness to use the modernized MiG-29 fighters delivered by Russia to protect airspace over the eastern part of the Mediterranean Sea, including to attack Israeli fighters, in case the latter show aggression against Syria, learned BulgarianMilitary.com citing Aviapro and AMN news agencies.
“On Saturday, the Syrian Arab Air Force (SyAAF) received a new batch of MiG-29 aircraft, which were recently modified in Russia before being transferred to the Khmeimim airbase in southwestern Latakia. According to a Syrian military source, these aircraft are more efficient than their previous generation, and they performed their flights from the Khmeimim base to military airfields throughout the country” the SAA source told AMN.
According to AMN publication, the nature of conflicts and wars taking place in the region, regional and global problems in the face of the problems of terrorism and energy security in the world, require the leaders of Russia and Syria to strive for high-level coordination, which supports the coalition against terrorism and primarily supports the confrontation of global hegemonic forces who seek to control the transmission lines of power and wealth.
On the other hand, the acceleration of Russian-Syrian cooperation at this stage indicates the level of threats, challenges and dangers that the world faces in the Eastern Mediterranean region, in particular in Syria, which means that the region is facing increasing risks of escalation.
“All countries of the region should increase the level of efficiency, coordination and cooperation strategies in the framework of achieving geopolitical goals in the region and solving problems. This support will not only ensure a balance of deterrence, but also add new value to the ability of the Syrian armed forces to counter terrorism and give superiority in shooting and accuracy”, a military expert told AMN.
To date, the only threat to Syria is Israel, which has an aggressive policy against Damascus. Considering the fact that part of the new Syrian Air Force MiG-29 will be located at the Khmeimim airbase, Israeli F-16s will be quickly detected, and probably even easy intercepted.
