According to PGZ Board President Andrzej Kensbock, the supply of the first tanks is a key step in the Leopard 2PL program. Acceptance of these machines offers the consortium the opportunity to supply the Polish Armed Forces with a large batch of MBT of this configuration.

Over the past two weeks, the consortium has conducted final tank tests before delivery to the customer. According to the test results, the acceptance committee made a positive decision. The first batch of Leopard-2PL will go into service with the 10th Armored Cavalry Brigade (Sventoszów) of the 11th Armored Cavalry Division.

Modernization of the Leopard-2A4 tanks to the Leopard-2PL standard, in particular, includes replacing the hydraulic stabilization systems for the gun and the turret with electric ones, improving the Rh-120 L44 smoothbore gun while maintaining a 44-gauge barrel length and adapting it to the use of new types of ammunition . MBT “Leopard-2PL” is also equipped with modified sighting and observation systems of the commander and gunner with the 3rd generation thermal imaging camera KLW-1 ASTERIA.

The tower is equipped with additional armored modules, a new fire extinguishing system is installed. As part of the modernization work, all tanks also undergo maintenance, which is mainly carried out by the Polish defense industry.

According to the PGZ management, the modernization and restoration of the technical condition of the Leopard-2A4 MBT allowed enterprises to gain new competencies. The consortium has built facilities for repair and supply and is currently working to ensure the supply of spare parts for Leopard-2PL.

The consortium announced plans to build capacity for the restoration and production of a number of tank components, carry out the necessary certification and enter the supply chain of components for this equipment. Given the long-term prospects of operating Leopard-2, this decision should benefit both the company and the customer represented by the Polish Armed Forces.
