According to the NSA, a group of military hackers known as the Sandworm Team, “at least since last August,” took advantage of the vulnerability in the software of the Exim mail transfer agent (MTA). This software is widely used, which is included in the hardware kit with the pre-installed Linux operating system.
The vulnerability CVE-2019-10149 allows the remote format to “execute commands and set the execution code at its discretion,” the report said.
According to the NSA, Sandworm Team “added privileged users, knocked down network security settings” and took steps to continue to exploit the vulnerability mentioned above. It is available in the old version of e-mail software; last year, the bank recommended that its customers update this program.
The NSA claims that the group of hackers allegedly stands the GRU (GU GSH RF).
The United States and other Western countries have previously made allegations of cyber attacks by Russian hackers. Moscow has repeatedly denied such allegations.
