MOSCOW, (BM) – The Russian perspective Poseidon unmanned aerial vehicle will be launched for the first time this fall, RIA Novosti reported, citing a source in the military-industrial complex, learned BulgarianMilitary.com.
According to the interlocutor, the launch will take place from the side of the Belgorod nuclear submarine. The source added that “Poseidon” “has not yet been assembled, it is testing individual components and assemblies.”
The head of the Center for the Study of Public Applied Issues of National Security, retired colonel Alexander Zhilin believes that the drone “can practically be on alert and perform assigned tasks at any time without any restrictions.”
“It is clear that certain risks arise when, conditionally, hackers may try to take control. But, talking with our engineers, designers, I came to the conclusion that the protection against external interventions is enormous,” the commentator is sure.
In February 2019, the Ministry of Defense presented the first video of the Poseidon testing range. Then the President of Russia Vladimir Putin said that the drone carrier will be launched in the spring.
In April 2018, the UK called the Status-6 weapon, under which Poseidon is being created, the Doomsday device.
The nuclear drone was officially unveiled in March 2018. Initially, weapons of mass destruction, known since November 2015, were called Status-6.
