MOSCOW, (BM) – The naval composition of the Baltic Fleet is at the stage of equipping ships with new generations, according to the congratulatory telegram of the Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy, Admiral Nikolai Evmenov, to the Baltic sailors on the occasion of Baltic Fleet Day, which is celebrated annually on May 18, learned BulgarianMilitary.com.
In particular, according to him, “in the near term, the surface component of the Baltic Fleet will be replenished with a series of 6 small missile ships of project 22800. Four of them will carry on board the marine version of the Shell shell complex. The first such ship will be the Odintsovo small missile ship, on which tests of the Pantsir complex will take place in the near future” said he statement.
“One of the most important tasks of the Baltic Fleet is and will be the task of ensuring the testing of new ships and diesel-electric submarines coming from industry as part of equipping the Navy. This applies to frigates, corvettes, mine ships and submarines, which are being built at the enterprises of the United Shipbuilding Corporation in St. Petersburg, as well as small missile ships, hydrographic vessels and boats, which are building other Russian enterprises under contracts with the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation,” the commander-in-chief emphasized. .
N. Evmenov, also noted that “the Baltic people traditionally make a huge contribution to the exploration of the oceans. Currently, the round-the-world expedition is the oceanographic research vessel Admiral Vladimirsky, which will arrive in Kronstadt in early June, completing a unique Antarctic voyage. “The data of the expedition will be carefully analyzed at the High Command of the Navy and the Center of the Russian Geographical Society at the High Command of the Navy.”
Pantsir-M is a Russian jamming-resistant naval close-in weapon system (CIWS). Pantsir-M is equipped with friend or foe identification system and armed with naval version of the Pantsir’s 57E6 missiles and Hermes-K missiles. Its secondary armament are two six-barreled 30×165mm GSh-6-30K/AO-18KD rotary cannons (range 5 km).
Same as on Kashtan-M, Pantsir-M is fully automated and can engage up to four targets simultaneously at a range of up to 20 km and can operate as a battery of up to four modules. Pantsir-M can intercept sea skimming missiles flying as low as two meters above the surface. If a target isn’t sufficiently destroyed by Pantsir’s missile attack it can automatically direct its cannons against it. Pantsir-M’s phased array radar, electro-optical/infrared targeting and identification system are based on that of Pantsir’s 1RS2-1.
According to Rostec CEO Sergey Chemezov, Pantsir-M’s destructive power is three to four times higher than Kashtan-M’s.
