BERLIN, (BM) – Over the three months of the coronavirus epidemic, the world has accumulated rich experience in dealing with the “silent, invisible and merciless” killer, writes Die Welt. And thanks to this, everyone now imagines what lies ahead for us when the nuclear world concluded during the Cold War comes to an end, says author of the article Michael Stürmer: “The knock of the horses of the horsemen of the apocalypse is approaching.”

The old strategic architecture is collapsing and the world is plunging into a mess, the publication continues. The US was tired of the role of world leader and went into isolation, for which the Europeans were not ready. China is gradually and uncontrollably expanding its influence, the author writes: “The one who calls himself the Middle Empire is not only concerned with economic prosperity: he has full-scale claims to power, and the New Silk Road serves as an economic and financial proof.”
“Russia under Vladimir Putin is still dismantling the wreckage of the empire, but is again trying to return to world politics,” says Stürmer. “Once again, the need has arisen for wider intimidation with NATO assistance. But trembling fanfare will not be enough. ”
Restoring strategic balance is prevented not only by the world powers themselves, but also by the development of digital technologies, with which you can attack secretly, as well as the development of new types of weapons and the militarization of space. The fear of mutual annihilation, forcing countries to peace, dissipates, says Die Welt.
In addition, smaller players join the nuclear club. First, India and Pakistan, now North Korea and Iran. The world is facing “nuclear anarchy,” Stürmer warns. In his opinion, the model of the 60s, when arms control was carried out by the USA, Russia, Great Britain and France, no longer reflects the true balance of power in the world, not to mention influencing it.
