SEOUL, (BM) – Army General Lim Kwan Il allegedly succeeded Chiang Kil Sung as head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the DPRK Armed Forces. According to the agency, Lim Kwan Il was promoted to lieutenant general in 2017, and in December last year he was appointed a member of the Central Military Committee of the ruling party.
According to Interfax, official information on the appointment of Lim Kwan Il to the corresponding post in the state media of North Korea was not published.
The DPRK Armed Forces General Intelligence Directorate is known for its involvement in the 2010 torpedo attack on the South Korean corvette Cheonan, which killed 46 sailors aboard.
In addition, there is information that North Korea has replaced the supreme commander of the guard, which is responsible for the security of state leader Kim Jong-un. The place of Yoon Cheon Lina was taken by Kwak Chan Sik.
The Ministry of Unification of the Two Koreas annually publishes updated information on personnel shifts in the North of the peninsula. The data published by the department are based on reports by the state media of the DPRK and analysis of intelligence information.
