MOSCOW, (BM) – Russian President Vladimir Putin took part in a ceremony in honor of the 75th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War, which took place in the Alexander Garden in Moscow, learned BulgarianMilitary.com citing news agency Gazeta.

The head of state laid flowers at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, as well as at the obelisks of hero cities and a memorial sign in honor of the cities awarded the title “City of Military Glory”.

Having laid flowers, the President of Russia addressed the citizens of the country, congratulating them on Victory Day. He noted that the day of May 9 is “the most important, most expensive holiday” for the Russians, which the whole country celebrates solemnly and popularly:

“This is our memory and pride, the history of our country, the history of each family, part of our souls that our fathers and mothers, our grandparents, gave us.”

Putin pointed out the invaluable contribution of the war veterans to the future of Russia, Europe and the whole world, which “cannot be measured, paid for in no way.” “We pay tribute to the endless recognition of the great, sacrificial feat of the Soviet people, people of different nationalities, standing shoulder to shoulder at the front and in the rear. Time has no power over their courage, unity, dignity and truly steel strength of mind,” he emphasized.

The grave of the Unknown Soldier, standing next to which Putin turned to the Russians – a sacred place for the inhabitants of the country, the president pointed out. All over the country, people bow to all the “defenders of the Motherland, heroes who forever remained in mass, unknown graves near Moscow and Smolensk, Stalingrad and Kursk, near Sevastopol and Minsk, Kiev and Riga, near Berlin and Vienna, at Pulkovo heights, at the banks of the Neva, Dnieper, Danube, Vistula and Oder.”

“We bow our heads to the blessed memory of everyone who has not returned from the war, to the memory of sons, daughters, fathers, mothers, grandfathers, great-grandfathers, husbands, wives, brothers, sisters, fellow soldiers, relatives, friends,” the president announced after these words a moment of silence.

In conclusion, the head of state promised that the traditional Victory Parade will be held in the capital “broadly and with dignity” when the epidemiological situation in the country allows it. “Our veterans fought for life against death. And we will always be equal to their unity and stamina. We are united by a common memory and common hopes, our common aspirations, our responsibility for the present and future. We know and firmly believe that we are invincible when we are together,” Putin emphasized.

After the president’s address in the sky over Red Square, an air parade commemorating the 75th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War began, in which 75 aircraft and helicopters took part.

In the sky over Moscow, a military transport helicopter Mi-26 and four multi-purpose Mi-8AMTSh, five attack Mi-35M and five Ka-52 helicopters flew in full dress. Closed the span of the helicopter five Mi-28N “Night Hunter”.

The A-50U reconnaissance aircraft opened the aircraft, followed by the Il-76MD troika, the Tu-95MS long-range bombers and four Tu-22MZ, led by the Tu-160 missile carrier. Then the Il-78 tanker flew with the Tu-160 long-range bomber, which simulated a refueling in the air.

The air parade was held not only in Moscow, but also in 31 other cities of the country. Airplanes and helicopters flew over St. Petersburg, Kursk, Orel, Voronezh, Belgorod, Vologda, Yaroslavl, Nizhny Novgorod, Smolensk, Vyazma, Ostrov and Kaliningrad.

The head of state appealed to the Minister of Defense of Russia Sergey Shoigu with a request to express gratitude to the flight crew and ground services of the Ministry of Defense for providing and holding the air part of the parade in Moscow and other regions of the country. He also stated that all plans for the development of the Russian army and navy will be fulfilled.

The corresponding statement was made by the head of state during his speech by foot and horse guards of the Presidential Regiment. He added that the Russian army will receive the most modern equipment.

“And I want to emphasize again: all plans for the development of the Russian army and navy will be fulfilled, there should be no doubt about that,” Putin emphasized.

The main part of the celebrations dedicated to the celebration of the 75th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War was postponed indefinitely due to the unfavorable epidemic situation in the country and in the world. Nevertheless, announcing his decision to postpone the Parade and march of the “Immortal Regiment”, the head of state promised that these events will be held in 2020.
