PARIS, (BM) – The Minister of the Armed Forces of France, Florence Parly, announced the start of factory trials of the lead multipurpose nuclear submarine of the Barracuda type, learned BulgarianMilitary.com.
The boat went to sea on the morning of April 27, and on the 28th it made a test dive as part of this test phase.

They wanted to start factory tests earlier in March, but they had to be postponed due to technical problems, as well as because of the coronavirus pandemic.
Recall Suffren – the head submarine of the Barracuda type. It began to be built in the arsenal of the Naval Group in Cherbourg in 2007. The ship was launched only in 2019.
As for the commissioning of the submarine, it was previously scheduled for 2020, however, in connection with the postponement of the tests, these dates can move forward. In total, the French Navy wants to get six of these submarines.
Boats of this type are relatively small: they are almost one and a half times inferior in displacement to American multipurpose submarines such as Virginia. As weapons, Barracuda carries cruise missiles and torpedoes that can be launched from four bow torpedo tubes.

Recall that in early April, the U.S. Navy commissioned the USS Delaware multipurpose nuclear submarine.
