The fact that Tokyo is working on hypersonic weapons has been known for a long time. Earlier, the Japanese announced the creation of two such complexes: the Hypersonic Cruising Missile (HCM) hypersonic cruise missile and the Hyper Velocity Gliding Projectiles (HVGP) complex, which consists of a solid fuel rocket and a planning warhead.

The Japan Defense Ministry Procurement and R&D Agency has now provided new information about the Hypersonic Cruising Missile. It is reported that the rocket will be equipped with two types of engines – accelerating ramjet ramjet and marching hypersonic ramjet. The first will accelerate the rocket to a speed of five Machs, and the second will provide a flight at higher speeds. The missile range is over 1000 kilometers.

As previously reported, the HCM is a ground-based missile that can hit both ground targets and enemy ships. To solve these problems, two types of warheads are created: penetrating Sea Buster and multipurpose MEFP. HCM can be adopted by the 2030s.

Japan is far from the only country working in this direction. Recall, the United States recently announced a new series of trials of the promising hypersonic block C-HGB.
