WASHINGTON, (BM) – The US is tired of watching Russia test its Sarmat, so Northrop is in full swing developing its Satan-2. According to the Defense News, the company will receive a record $ 85 billion for the missile program, which should replace Minuteman-III in the mid-2020s, learned BulgarianMilitary.com.
Boeing had fallen out of competition earlier after Northrop bought Orbital ATK, one of two solid-fuel rocket engine manufacturers in the United States.
The Pentagon recognized that Minuteman III does not make sense to upgrade further, since this is a rocket made in the 60s, and its improvements were minimal.
Work on the latest GBSD rocket is the most secret. It is only known that it is a new generation, and it will be even more difficult to bring down, thanks to more complex trajectories of warheads.
The new missile will become even more accurate and should be worthy of competition with the Russian Sarmat, which is only being prepared for flight tests. By the end of September, a model of the rocket and the presentation of the entire program are already waiting at the Pentagon.
The United States is currently modernizing the entire nuclear triad, which has been greatly accelerated by the latest Russian weapons, such as the Avangard hypersonic unit.
The Americans are modernizing their Trident II, which will soon arm their Columbia submarines. B-21 bombers are preparing for the US Air Force, which will be able to take on an arsenal of nuclear bombs and missiles.
