TBILISI, (BM) – Joint naval exercises were conducted by NATO and the coast guard ships of the Border Police of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia, learned BulgarianMilitary.com citing InterpressNews.
The exercises were attended by the coast guard of the Border Police of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia “Dioscuria” and “Ochamchire” and five NATO ships from Italy, Canada, Romania, Bulgaria and Turkey.

“The purpose of the exercises is to increase the level of interaction and interoperability between NATO ships and the Georgian Border Police,” the Georgian Interior Ministry said. It is noted that the exercises took place in accordance with the WHO recommendations for the prevention of coronavirus infection, the crews did not interact, joint meetings took place only remotely.
Recall that NATO has repeatedly stated that Georgia will not be able to enter the Alliance without resolving the issue with Abkhazia and South Ossetia. Otherwise, according to the fifth article of the NATO charter, after Georgia joins the Alliance must join the war with unrecognized republics.
Earlier, Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili said that the construction of the US military base in Georgia could be regarded as a provocation by Russia, so the United States itself is not ready to take this step now.
