Troops live-fire S-300, Pantsyr-S anti-aircraft missile systems in southern Russia drills
The drills at the Ashuluk practice range in the southern Astrakhan Region ended with the firings of S-300 anti-aircraft missile systems and Pantsyr-S surface-to-air missile/gun launchers, Russia’s Defense Ministry reported on Wednesday.
“The drills ended with the launches of surface-to-air missiles against target missiles that designated the flight of aerodynamic targets, cruise missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles,” the ministry said.
Overall, more than ten targets were destroyed, the ministry added.
The S-300 is a long-range surface-to-air missile system designated to defend vital civilian and military installations against any air attack weapons: ballistic and cruise missiles, aircraft and unmanned aerial vehicles.
The Pantsyr is designated to shield military and civilian facilities, including long-range air defense systems, from all modern and future air attack weapons. It consists of 12 surface-to-air missiles (six missiles in two transport and launch containers each).
The Pantsyr is also armed with two 30mm guns, each of which is capable of firing up to 40 rounds per second.
Yemen: Army launches massive attack on Houthi sites, Socotra governor survives assassination attempt
A Yemeni military source revealed on Wednesday that government forces regained parts of the strategic Houthi-controlled Al-Labnat camp in Al-Jawf governorate (north).
The source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told Anadolu Agency that the Yemeni government forces launched a massive attack on Wednesday on Houthi sites in the Khabb wa ash Sha’af District in Al-Jawf.
The source added that the government forces managed to control large parts of Al-Labnat camp, while fighting battles to control the rest of the camp’s northern parts, and other locations.
The military source indicated that more than 15 Houthi militants were killed and wounded during the attack, while no casualties were reported among the government forces.
The Houthi movement did not issue a statement on the attacks until 11:00 GMT.
On 30 March, the Houthis took control of Al-Labnat, after controlling the city of Al-Hazm, in the centre of the Al-Jawf governorate, at the beginning of the same month.
