DAMASCUS, (BM) – The power substation in northern Syria was de-energized as a result of an attack by Turkish military and pro-Turkish groups, learned BulgarianMilitary.com citing the Syrian news agency SANA on April 4.
According to the agency, as a result of shelling of the Turkish armed forces together with pro-Turkish militants near the border with Turkey in northern Syria, the power line was damaged. This led to a blackout in the Tel Tamar area.
Information on the number of people left without electricity is being specified.
Kurdish-Turkish conflict in northern Syria
Recall, on March 22, as a result of the actions of the armed Syrian opposition in the Tel Tamar region, the supply of drinking water was stopped for 600 thousand people living in the region.
On October 9, 2019, Turkey launched a “Source of Peace” operation against the Kurdish Syrian Democratic Forces (SDS) in northern Syria east of the Euphrates River. In Ankara, the objectives of the operation were the ousting of Kurds from a 30-40 kilometer buffer along the entire length of the Syrian-Turkish border east of the Euphrates and the subsequent movement of Syrian refugees to this zone who were fleeing the territory of Turkey.
Turkey used groups of the Syrian opposition, controlled by Ankara, as shock troops. The Turkish military commanded the militants of these groups, the Turkish army supported them with artillery and aircraft. The same groups remained in the territories occupied during the operation.
On October 22, 2019, in Sochi during the negotiations between Russia and Turkey, an armistice agreement was reached. But pro-Turkish militants regularly violate it and fire at Kurdish positions in the provinces of Raqqa and Hasak. In turn, SDS often begin to shoot back. Therefore, the situation in the zone of the “Source of Peace” cannot be called peaceful.
