WASHINGTON, (BM) – The US military leadership decided that from now on the Pentagon will stop providing some more detailed data on the distribution of a new type of coronavirus (Covid-19) in the US army, fearing that this information could be used by “intruders”, learned BulgarianMilitary.com according US Secretary of Defense Mark Esper statement.
US Secretary of Defense Mark Esper yesterday, March 26, in an interview with Reuters said that military countries will continue to share data on the total number of cases of coronavirus infection in the armed forces, which, according to March 25, grew by 30 percent to 227.
At the same time, the Pentagon chief indicated that “some information related to a specific mission” to combat the pandemic will be classified so as not to jeopardize “operational security”.
“What we want to do is give you aggregated numbers. But we are not going to clarify the numbers, because they can reveal information about where we can be affected at a faster rate than it can be in some other places,” the Minister of Defense tried to explain in a rather intricate way the reasons for the secretion of information about the spread of coronavirus inside US Armed Forces.
What information will be confidential, the head of the US military did not explain.
As reported by EADaily, on the carrier of the US Navy, which is on duty in the Asia-Pacific region, the first cases of infection with coronavirus infection were detected.
Tests of three sailors aboard the aircraft carrier Theodore Roosevelt yielded a positive result for the coronavirus, said U.S. Navy Secretary Thomas Modley earlier.
The crew of “Theodore Roosevelt” has more than 5 thousand sailors and officers, as well as civilian specialists in the service of the US Navy.
These cases are the first for a USS deployed in the oceans, and are likely to create big problems for the crew of the aircraft carrier and the US Navy as a whole, which “work to maintain readiness and advanced presence in a global pandemic,” commentators commented.
In January, Theodore Roosevelt and other vessels from the U.S. Navy ship group left San Diego for deployment in the Pacific. The vessel arrived on March 5 in Vietnamese Danang with a friendly visit.
The sailors got off the ship to take part in various events, including sporting events, according to a press release from the US Navy.
In the United States, according to data on the morning of March 26, nearly 86,000 cases of coronavirus infection were confirmed. 1300 people died.
