KYIV, (BM) – The Ukrainian company Praktika conducted land trials of the Otaman 6×6 armored personnel carrier, learned BulgarianMilitary.com.
According some military experts, the new Ukrainian armored carrier is a modernization of the Soviet BTR-60, which was produced in 1960-1987.
According to N+1, since 2016, Praktika has been developing two versions of the armored car: six-wheeled and eight-wheeled. During the modernization, the designers replaced the power unit and the BTR-60 body.
The new armor protection is designed to protect against bullets of 7.62 mm caliber and fragments of a 155-mm shell. The case is also equipped with mounts for ceramic armor.
The creators of the “Otaman” placed the engine in front, and the crew and landing compartment – in the back. The prototype was equipped with a combat module with two anti-tank missile launchers, six 40 mm caliber grenade launchers and a 30 mm cannon.
The weight of the new combat vehicle reached 23 tons against 10 tons in the first BTP-60.
According to NEWS.ru, in February armored personnel carriers of Ukrainian production BTR-4 “Bucephalus” entered the army with cracks.
